Best HBO series
Hello,
What do you think is the best HBO series ever made?
Top 5 for me :
1)Band of Brothers
2) True Detective
3) Game of thrones
4) The Wire
5) The Pacific
1. The Sopranos
2. Oz
3. The Wire
4. True Detective
5. Silicon Valley
6. Brink
7. Curb your Enthusiasm
8. In Treatment
9. Bored to Death
6-Feet Under
The Wire (early seasons)
Sopranos
Game of Thrones (1st 2 seasons)
Super Dave
Tales from the Crypt
HBO are fucking quality.
The Sopranos is the definitive answer. i feel The Wire is great (loved season 2), but is overrated somewhat - it didn't stand up to multiple views like the sopranos does - it became a slog. The Sopranos stays electrifying, even though you know it inside out.
Oz is fucking awesome - the intro alone has more balls than most shows. it became the standard bearer for gritty and realistic shows. it was downright grisly.
there is a new HBO mini series just out made by David Simon of The Wire (and Paul Haggis) it's only 6 parts though, just started yesterday i believe - called Show Me a Hero.

I loved 6-part Jinx documentary too.
1. The Sopranos
2. The HitchHiker
3. Curb Your Enthusiasm
4. The Wire
5. 1st and 10
6. Tales from the Crypt
7. BoardWalk Empire
8. Oz
9. Arlli$$
10. Veep
honorable mentions
1. Not Necessarily the News
2. Fraggle Rock

My fav would be Oz, definitely.
Oddly enough, I couldn't watch The Sopranos untill the end, I think I stopped during S04. Maybe I was a kind of "show nerd" and watched too many at the same time without enjoying one. Same goes for The Wire.
What am I missing ?

Game Of Thrones is really the only one I watch. Also Bill Maher from time to time. Used to be a fan of True Blood, but eventually stopped watching it. Also was a big fan of Ali G - can't recall what program it was on.
I generally prefer Showtime and AMC series over HBO series; namely, Homeland, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Ray Donovan. Looking forward to the new season of Homeland and Fear The Walking Dead, which begins next Sunday.

Sopranos was great on all aspects. From the writing, to the acting to the music, to the themes; Sopranos nailed it!
from the scene to Ralphie beating Tracy to the scene where Adrianna admits to being an FBI informant to the scene where Tony is at the safe house laying down with the machine gun in hand

Yeah, Sopranos was great. Another amazing scene (from the episode where Melfi is attacked): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7iAhJoa4BXo
...ever think what a coincidence it is Lou Gehrig died of Lou Gehrig's disease..?
Some of you guys forgot to mention 'Ballers'.
By the way how is HBO getting away with this?! All of these shows are BASICALLY famous because they have RECENT MOVIE STARS as TV show regulars!
I personally feel that these shows are famous ONLY because they get the big movie star names to appear LIKE THEY WERE JUST A FACE IN THE CROWD. In that sense, I would watch any of these as long as they keep the famous movie stars gonig in!
