Anyone remember the Pokemon craze?

just like trance, its apex was in 1999. it was probably the biggest Japanese import at the turn of the century. people in my age group born from like '87-90 were the biggest targets at the time.

How can we forget, with the current generation of lamentable kidults unwilling to grow out of any of the comfortingly juvenile shit from their childhood?

Pffft Pokemon is for babies. I was a Turtles kid.

Right on. I was too old for Pokemon even back when they originally came out.

there's a lot of people in their 20's who still play pokemon and they actually find justification for it. I think it's pathetic. anyone older than 12 should grow out of it. I'm just simply taking a trip down memory lane.

What about Magic? I always thought that was a fun game. I never got so into it that I'd make decks and collect cards but would jump into a game with one of my brother's deck sometimes.

Posted by AlphaStarred on Sep-14-2015 22:31:

I was definitely into Pokemon back in the day. I'd collect the cards and had a keychain, as well. The cartoons were pretty cool when I was young. I remember playing the game once with a friend in High School (freshman year) and a few times on my computer when they had an online game. Eventually I grew out of it.

Anyone remember Marvel trading cards, though? That was the shit back in the day. Marvel Masterpieces!

^shit my bad, I see you were born in '84. Pokmon definitely catered to teens at the time as well. Hell, there was this man who was damn near 30 in '99 selling pokemon cards out of his 1st floor apartment window. he ended up moving after some kids smashed into his window and stole his pokemon collectibles. crazy time.

My 8 year old nephew is big on the pokemans, these new pokemans look pretty bad.

Pokemon

It was all about Dragon Ball Z anyway.

In short, the Japanese are geniuses.

The accuracy of this assessment of 90's kids is unmatched..we may very well be the generation of kidults that drives the world into the ground.

I'm irrationally psyched about Pokemon Go. It's a mobile platform game. They hired the guys that made ingress, so it's all about your geographical location. Think about it. You could battle with the guy in the stall next to you at target. Better yet, corner, intimidate and abuse 6 year olds at the mall to force them to trade you their shiny arcanine. real life team rocket.

I think the previous generation is going to do that before we get the chance...

Edit:
Besides, I'd rather have world conflicts solved with Pokemon battles rather than actual battles.

When I read this, first thought was damn straight, and second thought was this applies to anyone over the age of 18 that still plays more than 1 hour a week of video games.

If I was a little younger, I would've been all over this. But hey, I don't judge you at all bruh.

Seeing that video games are a much more profitable industry than films these days, that would be more or less everyone.

I don't play video games at all but I don't see why I should consider myself superior to those who do.

Me neither. I was born too early for the Pokemon craze (my younger brother, however, caught it)... And it would be hypocritical of me to knock Pokemon fans when I've probably clocked thousands of hours as Genghis Khan trying to convince Gandhi not to nuke the world into oblivion on Civilizations I, II and V

I'm sure that's about as pathetic as saying I spent hours trying to get Pikachu to evolve. Assuming this is possible.

Yet another fad I missed but my brother enjoyed. All I know from DGZ comes from randomly entering the living room and seeing him watch random scenes.

Needless to say, my students find it quite frustrating, given I teach Japanese
