When you see firebelly newts in a pet store, think about where they came from. The most common firebelly newts, Cynops orientalis, are imported from China. All are wild-caught. well some of it is true. the place where i got mine from gave me newt pellets.. and you know what? it didnt eat them.

but luckily I have experience with lizards already (veiled chameleon and 2 giant day geckos) so I have my usual source for info and supplies.

the little guy now lives on a healthy diet of blood worms. yummy.
