Hows the Spooky party

Can someone post the tracklist of the Johan set.

Posted by Prism on Oct-27-2002 17:55:

Cool

He played loads of unknown tracks, but some of them I recognized right away, Exposure - Magic Impuls, Ferry Corsten - Punk (Cosmic Gate mix), Kai Tracid - Trance & Acid (Derb mix), Gouryella - Ligaya, DT8 - Destination (BK vocal mix), S&G - Twisted (Original mix), S&G - Answer the question (S&G mix), Dark Monks - Insane, Jurgen Vries - The Theme (Jam-X DeLeon mix), Cafe Del Marco, Tiesto - Lethal Industry (S&G mix) got some nice responce from the crowd, Warrior - If you want me and loads of other tracks...it was a decent hard-trancey set which kinda managed to get the crowd goin like no other DJ could do playing before Johan. I actually got a picture taken with him in the hallway and even shook hands with him. He seemed like a cool Dutch guy! I was the only one in the crowd who actually recognized him!
Btw the needle kept skipping, as a matter of fact he train-wrecked quite a few times and he looked frustrated I dunno yet what was really the problem.

This is be far the WORST sound settings that have ever been used in the plaza. No fucking bass at all, the high hats were the loudest thing in the building. So much goddamn distortion it gave me a headache to listen to.

I left close to the end of Johans set at around 4. He played an OK set but with that sound system you totaly lost the "Big Room effect" that I go to the plaza to hear.

Really, i wonder how "Masterplan" is looked upon in the audio engineering world. The sound in all the rooms was a fucking joke. I can and HAVE set up better sounding PA systems then what was in the theatre room.

Its to bad the sound was so horrible that it ruined the night, the setup in all the rooms was really kickass. Then again like everyone in that building was so fucking high they probably didnt even notice, makes me think about how much fun i would have had if i still did drugs

the sound was really...bad.........fuck off to the person that sold me fake tickets on here......you'll get yours.......

johans mixing was super Unimpressive........

the people at the plaza make me never wanna go to another Van party.....where are all the party kids? 3/4 of the people that i saw were High as shit old ass 30+ yr olds.....WTF?

you guys should come to a seattle party........where there is a Chance of having a vibe........

Posted by Phu on Oct-28-2002 02:22:

Thats why i would never go to the plaza.

With absolutlty, positively, no distrespect for Johan(one of my all time top 3 favs)he is not the smoothest mixer.

I would never ask Masterplan for there services.

well...you should have all gone to freakin.....super tight old skool vibe...wicked warehouse...checkpoint and map included

everyone was dressed up.....way too many hotties....and pumping house and breaks...everyone was in their early 20's...no kids

no trance, but ah well...

Posted by Hondaswaper on Oct-28-2002 05:12:

Spooky 7 was an awesome party... period.

Sound could have been louder,,, damn city by-law

Those of you that didn't come to the party missed out,,, plain and simple. I got to meet Johan Gilen and he was pretty cool,,, got 2 of my recs. signed. I don't know why you guys that bitch and conmplain about Plaza parties,,, take it or leave. That was easily the best party I've been to in 2002.

peace.

Nemme's Spooky inside review

All in all I'd say obviously the party had it's ups and downs.. the sound obviously a let down, but overall there seemed to be a good atmosphere. It's not every day that azim books good trance on his line-ups that's for sure, he usually goes the caner route.

Johan was great.. his mixing may have not been the tightest at times but playing good music made up for it and I didn't notice anything that made me cringe.. pretty good guy, haha.. he was acting all choked at one point and going on to me about the left turntable/ channel was all fucked up and how he was going to stop playing in 15 minutes and that he was a professional dj and azim should have a professional setup.. pretty funny, i was drunk at the time, thought that was ridiculous and I was all 'ahhhh.. fuck whatever it's fine come on man.. just fuckin' give'er!!' haha.. he snapped out of it, realized he was being ridiculous, laughed and played the rest of his set having fun and didn't complain once. Johan's pretty agreeable overall.. told him to play a certain record and he threw it on within 10 minutes of me asking.. any time someone came up to get him to sign stuff or take a picture he always did it right away. Only thing I was disappointed with was that he escaped back to his hotel an hour after his set and didn't go crazy with us.. but that happens fairly often these days with a lot of djs. Obviously you can't go full tilt every gig you play..

Other than that.. I didn't really want to catch lock n' load as I was scared I might be subject to caning and parping possibly.. (you never can be too careful) however Cinto and DJ Huey each played some sweet tracks in the breaks room. Although irritating as I find Cinto sometimes, it's good to see him doing well and his skill shows without a doubt. Azim opened his set with a refreshingly non-parping change.. house!?!? yep.. opened with the bootleg remix of Thriller that's been going round. Nice one. The theatre was good for Seven & Dave (Prime) Armstrong's set of course but I wouldn't expect any less from those guys. Of course one big drawback was me not playing mainstage again this year heheh.. but Azim has his own logic for picking his line-ups and you gotta make sure that you book the people you are obligated to I guess..

Anyways I'm going to sleep.. hope everyone else was able to find and focus on the good points of the party and have fun like I did.
-Cheers, T.

Guys dont get me wrong. I love the plaza, i think its by far the best venue in Vancouver, i have seen all my favorite DJ's there, and all my favorite partys over the years have been plaza partys. I also like Azims partys, again most of the best partys over the years were twisted partys....plus he brought John'00'

I was bashing the sound which was HORRIBLE and that was masterplans fault.

S/K - Yah I thought that would happen. That sucks dude and that is why no more Plaza parties for me. The last party I heard that sound half-decent was iMix back in March, but that still wasn't loud enough.

I think that the PNE is a far better venue, but I know that it is way too costly and is really not worth throwing a party there from a promoters veiwpoint.

24K - As for not going to Spooky I don't feel I missed out on shit. If the sound is bad it is not enjoyable, period. Doesn't matter who is spinning, you gotta feel the music.

and exuse me while I rant

That By-law is a load of shit and I feel that Plaza parties suffer because of it. I think this is an other way for City of Vancouver the put and end to parties.

Are there only 3 allowed places to throw a legal 'rave'? I know there is Riverside, shithole. You got the Plaza, too quite. And then the PNE, too freakin expensive.

They have a hold on the promoters nuts. So many strict rules, they are taking the fun out of the whole partying experience. I guess their tactics are working. Sad.

Sorry I just had to vent.

I agree with you about the sound. When I first walked in,,, I was like "This is a fucking joke!" I felt like leaving,,, seriously. But seeing as Johan Gielen was spinning I decided not to,,, and I'm glad I didn't. After he came on,,, I didn't notice the sound being as quiet,,, maybe it was because I was feeling the music,,, I don't know. Anyways man,,, there were so many people there it was awesome! And there was like 3726832486325 hot chicks ;-). But yeah,,, I totally agree that something has to be done about the sound

LOL, it's up to us, the few and proud TAs in this city, if we want to hear good music at parties

What was the average age of this chicks? I love seeing these girls but I think I will go to jail if I talk to them.

For those peeps that are my age 23-24, do you remember the way girls looked when they where 15-18? They looked nothing like they way girls do today. Most of the teenage girls now look like nicely developed women. Oh to be born 5 years later.

Posted by Special_K on Oct-30-2002 22:07:

For the most part i would say the average age was around 18 to 19. Of course there are younger people but that seemd to be the average.

Posted by Phu on Nov-04-2002 03:12:

Younger ppl love to party and its also goes for ppl 35 and up.
