of doing a 24/7 live broadcast.. for a so-called tranceaddict radio..
with DJs from TA itself.. broadcasting 24/7... 365 days a year..
http://members.tripod.com/evolutionHK/TA/taradio.htm
check that out.. =p

Posted by raver4life on Apr-24-2001 20:20:

just curious, what kind of time slots are being made availble? You have 3 hours slots for people to check off if they would like but just wondering what the ideal slot times would probably be?

The two thoughts were unrelated.
Notice the line break.....

Man wtf with the rules the people who dj will be doing everyone a service by giving up their time to play, they aren't f**king working for you. i understand there has to be some timetable, but you worded the "rules" in the manner that people are accountable to you or something.

Anyways, peace

we're putting in a lot of time and effort. we want some kind of standard. we don't wanna see the whole thing go to wrong...

Hmm.. nobody asked me anything?

Anyways.... I talked with simcut about doing this way back in about November... and I talked with fuzion about it most recently last week.. I don't have the time now to set this up right now - in terms of archiving the good mixes, having them up for playback etc etc

You guys have good ideas in terms of the slots and what not but let's say you get this thing off the ground, then u get tired of it?

The thing is, a right system has to be in place for this to work on any large scale... the way you'd guys handle it via email & manually would be nightmarish/time consuming - especially if it started getting a lot of traffic/people wanting to spin..

By summer this site will be all linked through your userid in the forums... This is still in the works and I have a hell of a lot more to do but look at it this way.. All people who want to spin are allocated time slots - those who want to spin must log into the site within 12 hours of their slot and confirm their time slot - that way a few hours before they go 'live on air' it'll show up under the menu somewhere that the Next Show is DJ BLaBlah at whatever time (based on ur timezone) ... It will only say 'DJ BLaBlah spinning live on TA Radio NOW!' on the page if he logged into his profile and verified that he was ready to spin... this way nobody is misled as to who is spinning.. if he doesn't log in then the message will say something like TA Radio - Check our Archives & ShowTimes ..and u can look stuff up...

at the same time when they're spinning peeps can go in the chatroom and talk with the DJ ... there's LOTS of possibilities here... In case you haven't noticed I don't jump into things without preparing for the best (and worst... in terms of resources/time)

ok I said my $0.02, now I must sleep.

ILL spIN!

Hey.. guys.. ill put up a decent flash site.. if ya want already started workin on it, and ill even try to put up a database, and form to sign up on in flash

It's a good idea in general, but ...

I totally agree with Agi and Swamper on this, you make it seem like this would be some kind of job for the DJs who would spin. You are asking the DJs to put in their time, effort, and skills - and you make it sound like it's their obligation to show up and play. The whole project should be planned so that it could be flexible and adaptable to the DJs schedule, not the other way around. I don't think that many people will commit to playing if they aren't given some flexibility.

And also the application form is kind of odd, couldn't you just make a form on the site for the people to fill out ? Messing with .doc files is clumsy at best.

I am currently spinning for a station like that although on a smaller scale, and they have a nice system - basically whoever wants to spin during the week can just start their stream and publish the info on the website, so people can tune in; if there are no live streams at the time, there are always prerecorded sets running. Every saturday there is a regular scheduled stream with fixed DJ times ... I find this to be a very good approach.

hope this works out, it has quite the potential

peace

seem like a job? we just wanna make sure the the stream won't go down for an hour or so cuz someone didn't show up for their slot.

odd appform... ok, you right about that. we weren't to sure how to make an online appform. hopefully djnaebliss can change that

about the way you did it before... that means there would be everyone would have to change the link for a different stream after every set...

hopefully we can work something out... maybe together with swamper....

Robert

ps - patticus - "...how but up-and-coming bedroom djs... "

i think that was part of the plan too...

later peeps
appreciate all yall efforts

I didn't mean to come across as aggressive as idid in my last post. I do understand there has to be a timetable which must be relatively stuck to, but the rules were just a bit too much. Anyways great idea.

Peace

Not necessarily, you could have a relay server to which everybody broadcasts so there will be only one stream address. Or if that's not feasable, you can simply make a .m3u (playlist) file with the addresses for ever scheduled DJ so when one stream ends it automagically switches to the next scheduled stream.
