Hello! COR, I need your help to ID a song

Everyone on my Facebook is having a good laugh at this, so I figure why not spread the joy here.

Yesterday I was at the hardware store and a song was playing on the radio. It got stuck in my head. The problem is, the volume was quite low, and I wasn't able to make out any of the lyrics. The only part is did get was...

"naah naah naah naah, nah-nah-nah-nah"

That's actually what's being sung, I'm not substituting them for other words, and that's kind of part of the chorus and repeated a few times during the song. The first 4 notes there are descending and longer than the last 4 notes, which are closer together as well as shorter.

I'm pretty sure it's 80s. Slow-ish kinda song, a male singer, and generally a bit melancholy sounding. I've definitely heard it before, but I cannot for the life of me remember who it's by, nor any of the words.

Just for your lulz, I've recorded myself (poorly) humming the 8 note "nah nah nah nah" part. Link below:

Help me CORbi-wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

Hearing you attempting to sing this song almost as cringe worthy reading an Earn Your own Melanin post

Beenie man - oh na na na (remix)

Oh, I'm well aware of how shit my singing voice is Really wanna ID this song though, it's driving me nuts.

The COR came through for me last time I did this, which must be many years ago now, on a Richard Marx song.

Yeah, that one keeps coming up in all my Google searches for "nah nah nah" songs, along with Hey Jude.

The only Na Na Na Na song that matters.

Also funny as it's an Australian band

Probably someone of about my age in your neighborhood would know it. But that would explain if Lira laughed

This is something that I'm kinda of curious about, but how popular is/was Icehouse internationally? They were pretty big here with number 1 hits and so forth, but being an Australian band that makes sense. What about for you guys?

getting jiggy with it?

I had to look at Wiki for the track names, as I was 8 and 13 years old when "Hey Little Girl" and "Crazy" were hits over here, but I remember those track instantly. They had a very nice sound, but there was a lot of competition back then.

By the way, listening to "No Promises" made me think of "David Bowie/Pat Metheny - This Is Not America". Same nice sound.

Stu you honestly like that song? It sucks and I didn't hear any nah nah nah. Props to Jenny figuring that one out. I could think of a dozen better new wave songs.

You really couldn't hear the nah nah nah part? It's repeated like 3 or 4 times through the song

And really, the song isn't that great, though he's good singer. All I said was that it got stuck in my head

The most popular song of theirs over here is Great Southern Land, which I like better.

I get sentimental thing being similar age. Didn't seem catchy either. The other song was better. Its all good stu.
