trance, house, 80's, new wave, anything that has a beat to it belongs to a club.

is there a decent rap r&b hip hop mojo whatever tune out there that is popular in the clubs. trust me i looked and listened and a majority of them is so thuggish and obscene.

And this type of post is bound to give you a bad name.

hip hop and rap is commercial garbage.

Most hip hop "artists" have no musical talent whatsoever.

And I agree, the lyrics are terrible. Just talk about drugs, bitches, cars and money. Add random curses, grunts, and nigga's, and a 4 bar drum track with simple bassline, and you've got hip hop!

Posted by Trancealot on Oct-28-2002 17:52:

IMO...saying someone has no talent means that have no reason to live. I think if I got paid millions to make fans happy for whatever reason then who gives a fuck. I would not mind being a back ST boy or Britney spears, Shaquille O neal, Busta Rymes..etc....There are people who do it because of the love of the what they do or the money. As long as millions come to watch them and they are not disappointed I think they do have talent. I don't see music companies running at my door(does that mean I got no talent)???

And by you saying rap and hip hop is garbage is implying trance sucks also because thats what their saying. Maybe your not open to anything expcet trance d00d. Lay off and just let music be and not say everything sucks excpet for trance because you like it.

ps..this is a trance forum..maybe swamper should add a section called...opions about music other than trance. That be a big hit since many people here are ignorant about music. I can say hypothetically speaking"country music sucks" so what does than mean??absolutely nothing so don't even say things to make yourself feel better because you think the music you listen to is better than anoter. Everyone got ears but not one is the same.

I still don't understand why so many of you are against commercial music. I mean if trance turned commercial would you cut it up as well?

I listen to mostly trance but I still like allot of other genres as well.

Posted by Joca on Oct-28-2002 18:19:

Everyone has their own tastes. I'm sure people who like rap, alternative, pop or country are saying the same thing about trance/electronica. That's life man

Posted by [N]k|[Z] on Oct-28-2002 18:35:

well the hiphop and r&b industry makes more money than the trance music industry... so trance is inferior to hiphop & r&b, so obviously it aint too shitty. just cos you cant appreciate it for what it is, makes you narrowminded. Trance is music for open minded people, so you arnt even true to the style that you claim to love

Posted by InfiniteSquare on Oct-28-2002 19:04:

the only ones who like that shit are americans...thats just the way it is...i feel like punching them when i see them rapping, feck.

Posted by dJohn on Oct-28-2002 19:09:

LEMME SPEAK FOR EVERYBODY WHO LISTENED TO AND STILL LISTENS TO REAL HIP HOP TO THIS DAY.

You have no place to talk about hip hop being commercialized and being shitty. I don't think you have a fucking single clue between the difference between real hip hop and commercialized radio rap.

im talkiing about R&B hip hop rap gangsta tunes

What? I don't understand this at all...are you talking about R&B tunes, hip hop tunes, rap tunes, or gangsta rap tunes? Don't aggregate the into the same genre, cuz it aint. It's like saying house and trance are the same. You, everybody on this board and I know that it's not, so don't claim or state things when you assume things are the same.

quote:
trance, house, 80's, new wave, anything that has a beat to it belongs to a club.

That's your opinion entirely. It also differs demographically as well. I go to San Diego State University, and I guarantee you abuot 80% of the students here will disagree with you. Sure, house and 80's wave suits the dance floor really well, but so do tunes everybody knows, which sadly happens to be commercialized radio rap. Not to mention it's fun as hell to dance to rap, or hip hop, or r&b, or whatever you wanna claim it as cuz it's all the fucking same to you.

Uhmm... yeah. The method of finding this is split into 2 ways:
1. DO NOT assume that whatever you hear on the radio or see in the Billboard Top 20 or MTV Countdown is the only type of hip hop there is. There are MANY MANY quality artsts out there who receive a bad rap from people like you because the big headed iced-out rap millionares put out shit, which I'll admit. Nelly, Ludacris, Cash Money are some prime examples of what hip hop is NOT supposed to be.

2. Have a fucking open mind about things. I'm sure you'd get pissed off if people delineated trance as 'boring' because of Sasha or John Digweed's progressive slow style, or 'cheesy' and poppish because of...might I dare say, ATB or Alice Deejay. Tell me how ticked off you get when you say 'trance' and people respond with with 'Darude'.
Same shit.

quote:
i mean the beat is slow and its boring and the lyrics are sooooooo annoying.nigga what bitch nigga what bitch nigga what bitch. that is pretty much all those thugs say.

Translated into trance: I mean the it all sounds the same boom boom boom boom and it's cheesy and poppy and there are no lyrics and the sound effects are soooooo anoying. ((Cheesy synths and 4/4 beat)) that is pretty much what trance is.
True hip hop is anything but boring. Why don't you and give it an honest listen to REAL hip hop and see what kinda knowledge they baby feed you.

quote:
hip hop and rap is commercial garbage.

This has got to be highlight of this thread by far. Never in any music discussion board this diverse have I heard anything more tasteless and ignorant.
Again, lemme state that hip hop and rap are two entirely different things. And hip hop is NOT commercial garbage.
Define commercial. Ferry Corsten is commercial. Oakenfold is commercial. Tiesto is commercial. PvD is commercial. They are all own commericial in their own rights. You gonna bag on them too, labeling them as commercial garbage?

Trancealot and Backlight brought of very good points. Why don't you two(yes you know who I'm talking about) listen to them and be enlightened with their real open minded points of view. Or better yet, keep your ignorant opinions to yourselves, because I'm sure alot more people have something to say about your commercial clams of hip hop, rap or r&b.
But who gives a fuck, right? I mean they ARE all the same...

people DO cut up trance tracks that turn commercial. which is stupid in my opinion because a track never changes. only people's perception of it. and when the ignorant general public gets its hands on a trance track well it MUST be a crappy track, cause people who listen to the radio are all idiots and know nothing about trance.

well, this IS a trance board. so people with an ounce of respect for other genres of music can't win in an argument like this.

so tell me. why do people pack into clubs every weekend to listen to this garbage then? it must be cause they're all idiots right?

rap/hip hop you hear on the radio only talks about blingin and hos and all that crap because tracks like that are MEANT for the club scene. people roll out and shit on the weekends.

Posted by bluejay on Oct-28-2002 19:36:

this topic is so lame

music is a form of art...to say what is good music and what is bad music is all up to the individual's taste

just listen to what you like and what you think is good, and nevermind what other's think

Hmmm... try "Leftfield feat. Roots Manuva - Dusted" it's hip-hop and it's on the new GU CD by James Lavelle, nice tune.

IMO if you do a good search in each genre you're bound to find something that appeals to you.

cheers,

There's no such thing as a crappy genre of music. Just crappy songs. And some genres of music have crappier songs than others. Hip hop is just one of them.
Check out A Tribe Called Quest, or Jurassic Five, or Tupac. Those are some of the few worthwhile soulful and inspirational hip hop acts that have come along that stay true to the roots of hip hop.

I went to a party recently which was full of black people well I was the only white person there. Now we were all getting along but If I started shouting n.i.g.g.e.r peolpe would get offended however every one of the tunes seemed to have the word n.i.g.g.e.r in about at least 10000000 times. I'am I missing somthing?
I don't mind a bit of commercial R&B but I would'nt like to dance to it in a club orobley cos I car'nt stick my arse to stick out that far.

Yeah, and people probably feel like punching you in the face for making such ignorant, idiotic remarks.

Posted by uberclkgtr on Oct-28-2002 21:26:

there's a huge difference between hip-hop and commerical radio rap. one is a culture, the other is a corporate enterprise. don't get the two mixed up. and what dJohn said.

imagine would would happen to trance and house music if it went from the underground to mainstream via support from major labels such as sony, rca, etc. oh wait, that has already started to happen unfortunately, and the consequences are disturbing. dj sammy anyone?

of course even though most radio rap is pretty bad, there are a few gems out there that are actually quite good. sorting the wheat from the chaff requires a good DJ though, something radio jocks usually aren't. if you're not familiar with hip-hop DJs, check out DJ rupture, kid koala, cut chemist, rjd2, ...

Simply put:you gotta look at hiphop just like you would with trance,or any other genre. There's a lot of it that's crap, and there's a lot of it that's quality. You just have to do some digging until you get to the good stuff.

Posted by 531.am on Oct-28-2002 21:38:

rap sucks, it's so rank

Thank you. Couldn't of said it better myself.

As for the rest of you that think along the same lines as the idiot who made this thread....you don't know shit about the music and don't know who to look for. You don't see me making threads about the efficiency of solar oxide fuel cells do you? If you don't like it don't listen to it, don't go to clubs that play it, just continue sitting in front of your computer searching recognition and approval....but don't do it here because nobody really gives a shit! Honestly!!

hip hop music at clubs and trance music at clubs provides totally different atmospheres...i enjoy them both and know many people that do. Contrary to what you say it is not boring and the beat is slower than electronic but still very danceable, in addition to the conventional dancing at the clubs you can do some extra stuff (breaking, popping, grinding ) It is true that many rap songs have unnecessary swears and show blatant disrespect to women, but there are so many other ones out there that actually contain deep, raw, meaningful lyrics and poetry so i think your generalization is too harsh. Don't make an assumption on the whole genre based on the top 40 stuff you hear on the radio.
