Can you practice civil engineering without a degree?

So, I met someone today who told me she was a civil engineer, at some point in our conversation, which was a long one, the subject of multivariable calculus came up; very vaguely i alluded that people in this country could benefit from discrete boolean mathematics instead of newtonian mechanics.

So, she said she hadn't taken Multivariable calculus. I had to take Multivariable Calculus, do civil engineers need a degree to practice engineering? I mean, i know it's different for civil engineering than other but i thought all engineers had to know multivariable?

i don't think multivariable is a req for engineers, so she is probably not bullshitting me so she's good. You can't believe the shit people make up these days.

Pox? Chicken pox. Chickens. Why did the chicken cross the road? To get to the other side. Good joke, huh?

Fyi I was talking about OP though, not IGK. But still. Lol.

Such a posturing little twerp.

Lira, can you tell me, again, why we/you can't just ban people for being annoying pieces of trash?

Posted by Trance-M on Jan-19-2017 20:04:

Stupid questions do exist.

Oh. I guess your post applied to both then

I can't see many females talking to this dude as it is, and then he goes and fucks it up when one actually does.

Because, in theory, he's done nothing wrong. I'd love to be proven wrong, trust me, but it's complicated:

I've suspended him in the past for genuine reasons (such as posting a Brazilian Nazi flag), but these are the opportunities I have to wait for. Suspending him for being obnoxiously nonsensical would entail censorship (a slope that gets slippery quite easily), and opening an exception because most people want him out would be just the majority ganging up on an individual (even if he happens to be a twat).

The best I can say is that we should all ignore him like we ignore spam bots. If he keeps posting threads no one cares about, I can suspend him for flooding the COR but, until then, my hands are tied.

Why does he need to do something wrong to be banned?

I mean, I wish people would stop posting in his thread, but since they won't, I wish you would take action to resolve the situation.

Forgive me for I'm going to have to Google this.

Um sorry, but his posts contribute NOTHING relevant here. As I said, even spam bots post more relevant shit. He literally does not contribute in a meaningful way. His posts ARE spam, so why can't he be treated like the other spambots???

I know this must sound irritating, but it's what I perceive to be fair.

Think of me as the worst kind of centrist: I fail to please either side of the discussion, eventually pissing everybody off. If you've never seen Langragian ranting because of my so-called tyranny, I'm sure a quick Google search will show he thinks I'm trigger happy

It was something like the first one, except it had swastikas in all 4 corners

All right, I guess you both have a point, so let me have a think. I'll sleep on it and see if I can change my stance. I just want to make sure I have a good point to fall back on to justify a possible suspension

Posted by Silky Johnson on Jan-20-2017 02:35:

Like seriously read his post. The guy is basically having a conversation with him-bloody-self. It's obvious he doesn't even care to truly engage with posters here. For the inane self absorbed internal dialogue crap he posts, he can buy a goddamn journal.

Posted by on Jan-20-2017 05:31:

Don't ban him Lira. Maybe I'm being selfish because I enjoy an occasional laugh at his expense, maybe I'm being a hypocrite since I have him on ignore but if you give in to peer pressure you'll be only hurting yourself and your ideals of freedom and democracy. I've always held you in high regard don't let me down.

Posted by Sushipunk on Jan-20-2017 06:51:

Yeah, he's done. My call, not Lira's. Really over the tirade of posts consisting of... nothing. For years.

Posted by planetaryplayer on Jan-20-2017 07:07:

i demand you unban him then give me authority to ban him so i can say i did it

fuck you're a mincing faggot! the private sector can do whatever it wants re censorship. freedom of speech is a constraint on government only. there is no slippery slope, because we're talking about a site of about 2 dozen people at this point. so, 24 notches of "slip". won't be any worse with 23, indeed we all agree it would be better.
