Thinking of buying a guitar...

....any tips on buying? Like guitars to avoid etc.. Will be learning from scratch, think I will probably get an acoustic to learn on

I hear cheap ones are shit, and expensive ones are sooooo good.

Seriously though, I don't really know.

It's actually easier to learn on electric because the strings/frets are a little closer together.

I would just set a budget then ask somewhere like Guitar Guitar what they recommend.

Oh, and man the fuck up when the end of your fingers burn, because they will

I concur with tehlord, your fingers will burn but that is a good thing because eventually your fingers will be callus and it goes away.
But ya gotta keep at it..lol because you do NOT want to go through any of those stages again when and if you lose interest and then decide to pick it up again.

Yamaha has a great line of guitars for almost every stage of playing.
Martin - The ferrari of guitars

But honestly, I would go to a pawn shop for your first guitar. See if it is even what you want to do and if you keep at it,then get a better guitar. It's just more money down the drain if it doesn't keep the interest for you.
It is true as well that it is easier to play on an electric, however.
Learning on a an acoustic or nylon string will make you fly on an electric (once you know and understand what you are doing)
Me, I prefer an acoustic based on tonality alone.

I guess it all depends on what you want to do.
