The Rules
The Theme Challenge will consist of a 45 minute to 120 minute mix, left to your own interpretation of the suggested theme, which will be posted after sign-ups are over. There are no prizes. All entries should be uploaded to your favorite file hosting site and posted after the sign-up date and before the due date. All participants should make an effort to listen to and review each mix that has been posted.
IF YOU SIGN UP AND DO NOT DO YOUR MIX, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN FUTURE COMPETITIONS!!!
Sign-ups will last a little over a month, starting today and lasting through JULY 23rd, @ 12 AM GMT. Simply enter your name and the theme you suggest. I will choose a theme at the end of the sign-up period and the mixing will begin. This challenge ends September 30thMonday, October 30th @ 12 AM GMT. Late signups are generally fine, and I also add extensions for people who are delayed on submitting their mix.
You may choose to drop out before the sign-up dates end, but once the challenge begins you cannot drop out.

Definitely in. Can't think of a theme suggestion right now since I just woke up...
Awesome, glad to hear you are in. I've got an idea, but I'm not sure how popular it will be:
Peak Hours
You are the headliner at a festival or event, play a set for the biggest crowd you can imagine.
Looking forward to seeing some other ideas!
Count Me In please
Theme..... I have no idea.
All my music is basiclly pre 2005
I'm down.
Another theme to suggest: Summer Vibes
Peak Hours sounds pretty good too.
My gear is actually set up properly now, so I need some motivation to make more mixes. I'll have a go.
As for a theme, how about under water / scuba diving?

Maybe a driving theme?
I'm game, if I can get a pre-emptive extension to the end of October

I could be in. Maybe. It depends on the theme that gets settled on. As fun as it would be to smash out a peak time set, is that really a "theme"?

I select the theme at the end of the signup period, but I will only select the one that has had the most amount of general support.
Well, I definitely like the idea of a Peak Time theme the most out of the ones suggested. Driving would be cool as well, but again it's pretty loose. I could easily play the exact same set for both themes, as my peak time style is pretty driving.
Yeah, to me it seems like Peak Hours is the theme that allows for the most variety so far. Underwater may end up with a flood (pun intended
) of ethereal downtempo mixes, and the summery/rooftop party may have us listening to a bunch of different iterations of house/techno mixes. Maybe a Driving theme would have variety there as well.
Hopefully other people have some suggestions, or can give their thoughts/input on the current list.
Honestly, I haven't dished out a peak time mix in years so that intrigues me a lot.
The themes I come up with are quite a bit more abstract, like "where do I go from here?"

I'm definitely in!
As for a theme, mine is 'urbanity'. A bit open to interpretation - can be anything from the grittiness of a rust belt ghetto to a hyper-paced trip through a sprawling megalopolis, the hustle-and-bustle of city life, etc.

| Originally posted by Lews Yeah, the problem is, I'm gonna be gone for most of August and some of September, so end of September deadline will 100% not work for me, I'm afraid, if the theme will only be announced at end of July. Honestly mid November deadline would be best ![]() |
I prefer that these mix series get back to the old MD trends for threads so like, for example, next time there could be a theme of like "music to pick grapes to" or "music for a halal meat market".
Also, there should be more rules, and in a bigger font.
Oh yes Id be up for doing this again.
Ill put forward Autumn as a theme suggestion
Any other participants? (Jack?) Thoughts on the current list of themes?
All of the suggestions seem like doable themes, the question is what is everyone's favorite? I'd be interested in picking the one that has the most general support but if everything is pretty even I will just pick one at random.
ill have a go in this challenge. haven't been playing music enough lately so this will give me some incentive. as for a theme idea ill just throw in 'horror'
Does "deep south" simply entail our own personal associations with the US' southern states? If so, that sounds quite interesting.
Maybe we can do something akin to the genre challenge for this one, and assign a theme to each person. Would ensure that we don't waste anyone's good ideas.
I don't think I'm in this one. I've got a big project in the pipe that will use up everything I've got. It could be a theme challenge (loosely), but it would be a hell of a commitment for everyone who took part.
