n00bie dj equipment
Hi guys, i was wondering wot is the best and most cheapest stuff i can get to start dj'ing??
i was thinking 2 gemini turntables and a basic 2-channel mixer to start off with.. any suggestions?
thnx heapz guyz
depends on how much u wanna spend?
well id probly spend a maximum of $1000...
lets start with what you have
speakers? amp?
i got two technics 1210's and a vestax pmc-06 pro mixer... its a scratch mixer but its easy and simple so it was good for me to start with. i spent 900 on those which came wtih stanton groovemaster cartridges and slipmats. i already had speakers and amps etc
ok, an admin REALLY has to make one of the bazillion "what should i get to be a dj" threads STICKY!
yea its good your into but just search next time, there are MORE THAN ENOUGH threads to satisfy EVERY question you could EVER have!
U r planning to spend AUS$1000 rite ? i think those should be around US$600 .. well.. thats can get quite decent but still depend u r spending for Turntable or for CD player? .. TT might cost u more
2 Numark TT-200 [ Turntable ] should be around $210 each
1 good 2Channel Mixer or spend more for decent 3 Channel Mixer
U can get Numark DM Series for 3 Channel mixer .... it has good features with kill switch for low prices mixer US$190 but if you wanna spend more on mixer .. get Vestax mixer
perhaps for speaker .. try to hook it with ur Hi-Fi system first
Peace, LeVouS
U can get a setup with Stanton str8-80 with a sk2f mixer for $600 US ship to your door.

Hehe, I started out the Gemini First Mix package for $200 and it sucked so much I gave up on them and just went straight to Tech 1200s. As a lot of people have said here and in other forums, I think your best bet is to save a bit more (fight the urge to buy now!) and get Technics. You can probably get by with a cheap(er) mixer and a good pair of budget priced Shure cartridges for now and upgrade those later.
On a side note, I had all my equipment for about a year and for most of that year did not practice. The reason - frustration with not being able to beatmatch well. Only until 6 weeks ago did I get the urge to practice and now I can beatmatch fairly well and am working on phase matching. Moral of this story - do not intend to give up, even though you may really want to, because then spending all this money on equipment is a waste (just like it was for me for about a year).
I don't agree that everyone should save up the money and go for techs. There are plenty of other good tables out there. You do not need to get the best in order to start djing. Personally, if I didn't know if I was going to stick with it, then I wouldn't get the best table I could. I would get a decent pair so that I could sell them easily (true that you can sell techs easily too) and still have money left over for other things (like the music you'll need).
I would save my money if i were u and by technics and a nice mixer,
sure dj'ing might not be ut out for u... so what? u can sell technics used for close to what they cost new.
also, if you ever become a star and get a gig, guess what you will probably be using technics 1200's
i wanted to do the same as you, but a buddy who had already been spinning for a while recommende me the same, too a lil longer, but i got my techs and a vestax pcv 175 mixer, and I'm one happy man
just my 2 cents
