how do i record from vinyl then encode to mp3

at the moment this is what i do

connection: turntable --> mixer --> soundcard (PC)

recording slraight from the mixer, @ 44.1/16bits/stereo
onto a wave editting software such as soundforge 6.0

then use wave hammer, save it as 192k mp3, and its done.
not quite.

somehow it does not sound right?

how come?

Why are you using wave hammer?

The problem might be with your sound card, cos this is the same method i use to record my sets, but without the hammer, and they sound fine. Maybe using the wave hammer is altering the sound a bit. It will do this at some extreme settings.

www.dbpoweramp.com, they have a great music converter and ripper, really great software...works great, and uses the best codecs...(i believe)they also have a program/plugin that records vinyl, lps etc. Judging by their other programs, it should be good

Isn't the wave hammer a variation of an auto gain compressor though. I know what you mean though about it not being loud enough. Maybe you should boost the signal through your cd writer rather than sound forge

yes wave hammer is an audio compressor

its like normalising but normalising doesn't do any audio compression
it just boostes the volume all the way up. wave hammer does the same but also does the audio compression for you.

well some people seem to find it useful

ill prefer ozone v2.0.

Dude I had no idea people were already doing this! As someone with such limited cash I had to choose CDJ to be able to spin my own tracks over regular turntables, this kind of thing is what I need. Any of you know where I can get these vinyl-2-mp3's, or willing to trade some with me?

Eh! Don't waste your time wave hammering! If you wanna hi quality from your vinyl, try recording & processing with Dart Pro 98. It's specially for vinyl noise remover, and hiss and crackle too. This soft is rather old, and only supports .wav. But the results... really good. After that, send your brand new sound file to the t-racks processor.
