Why are Americans So Sensitive?

Why do some people consider a critical arguement about the weaknesses in the American political system as 'American Bashing'?

are some people that jaded that they cannot see past a paragraph of words and understand the point of the argument rather than immediately going off on tangents saying "Oh! Don't Bash Us! We'll kick your ass!"

because we all wear dainty little frilly poodle skirts!

really im not sure where to start. first of all, this isnt a political discussion in the least - just like most of your posts.

there is no way we USers are going to be able to explain ourselves when youve made up your mind so completely.

and furthermore, i cant believe there arent Canadian/Mexico TAs coming in here and bashing you for calling out US citizens by using such a general term as 'Americans'.

we arent all that sensitive, it just seems that its all against one(TA vs. the US) here - and with non-constructive comments im not sure what we need to do|

I don't know, why are non-Americans so stupid?

(In case you can't tell, I'm not asserting that non-Americans are stupid, but trying to point out what a dumb question it would be, and thereby, point out what a dumb question the topic of this thread is. Sorry if this parenthetical explaination insults your intelligence, but I figured I had better draw it out in crayon just to make sure it wasn't misunderstood.)

patriotism is an annoying blindness!

Posted by Nadi on Nov-08-2002 03:22:

Most people don't enjoy being sterotyped and insulted. All the non americans go on and on about how bad the U.S is, while never mentioning any of the similar activities there own goverments participate in. Again America is far from perfect, but theres way too many people just out there bashing us.

Posted by Itchy on Nov-08-2002 03:41:

there is a reason for us bashing you, and it is something along the lines of:

you are ignorant, obnoxious, loud bastards

Posted by ftnb on Nov-08-2002 04:45:

biznology is right, you should be a little more 'specific' when saying american. I was having an argument with somebody the other day about that, and i think its really lame that everybody refers to US citizens as americans when really from the bottom of south america to the tip of north, we are all americas... But anyways, this thread is fucking ridiculous. Like somebody mentioned earlier, post a topic that is relatively close to something along the lines of 'politics' or dont post at all.

Posted by ABTsportsline on Nov-08-2002 05:07:

well, your thread topic alone answers your questions. *well* before the political forum was created, many, many debates occured in the chillout room just LOOKING for ways to criticize the US... i mean even issues that weren't even relevant.

Countless attacks for the last year have prompted this "stop bashing the US" attitude from us. If there was less bashing, we'd stop.

The problem is exactly what everyone else has pointed out in this thread - most of those that complain have no idea what they're talking about, have never been here, or never even read about the topic they're complaining about. I don't know where all this anti-US sentiment comes from, but my best guess is that you are just tired of hearing about us in the media.

I don't blame you for that, i wouldn't want to hear about Australia 24 hours a day. But on the same token, if i didnt like it i would just stop watching the news Honestly though, if thats your only arguement then you are really reaching there...

the only person i've seen that has reason to complain is ftnb, and he is reasonable.

seriously, i dont know what the problem is with the Aussies hating us recently on these boards - i have met many an aussie troop overseas and they are class soldiers that back us 100% - met many an Aussie traveller in hostels in europe - all cool as hell. Whats with the uprising?

as far as relating - if a SHITload of people started attacking Australia religiously on TA, are you telling me you would never stand up for your country?

maybe we dont necessarily see it as a weakness.

Instead of critcizing the American political system, how about you look at another political system.

Lets criticize the political system of Iraq instead, where there was only one person on the ballot and a yes/no box... and then they haul you off to the hanging when you vote no.

Everyone is so into American bashing like we're the worst country in the world, but I'm here to point out countries that are overlooked while all the dolts have their eyes on America.

Now how about the tyrannical regrime of China, now there's a crappy political system right there. North Korea... heck, I could probably name off every third world nation.

When you criticize one country and ignore the rest your argument becomes stupid. All this America sucks this and America sucks that and no one is mentioning the transgressions of any other nation on earth... stop reading Al-Queda propaganda, that's what I say, and start criticizing the nations that harbor Al-Queda agents.

If we the western world, from the US to Russia unite, we can smash terrorism back into the sands from whence it came. But only if we unite.

and I believe that this is exactly it, I am sick and tired of hearing US this, US that on the news, in the paper, and even on TA. Every thread is about the US.

Off course the US is the country we should talk about after septemver 11, and in the beginning it was good, but you still hear about it every damn day!!

heh, I know I would defend my country (both Poland, and my current home, Canada).

And the reason why America is such a hot topic, is because its talked about everywhere. How many people would be able to talk about Canada's governmental problems?? Very few. Personally, I'm tired of the America bashing threads. No country is perfect...I wish we would discuss some other countries problems. America is like Eminem of the Political world...(sorta )

So lets talk about the governmental policies of Libya instead.

its not that we are sensative..look at it this way..say u own a car..and every single day u read a bad review about ur car that u love and u know that its not a lamborgini but u like it..wouldnt that hurt u..when someone wines about something near and dear to u wouldnt u get upset? and u can only push a person soo far..

Posted by JPJH on Nov-11-2002 14:11:

cause everyone in this forum loves to hit a kid when there down..thats cool...lets keep going..

in all honesty..america being the center of attention these days causes everyone to dispute only the wrong actions of the USA simply because its easier to talk about the bad and harder to talk about the good..you know kinda like "uh i wanna cut out of class, but if i stay maybe i'll learn something..nah lets cut out and be stupid"

so to answer your question..lets see your country become the center of attention mainly to be used as a target..

99.9% of all the "American/U.S." threads are made by non U.S. citizens....and for the most part all where started to stir up controversey...it is not us that keeps it going on TA.

I am just glad that i am **NOT** the only one defending the U.S. anymore.....i was, for a long time, in the the Chill Out Room trying to defend by myself, but i tend to come off rude, arrogant and/or ignorant since i lose my temper...nice to have you and Biz back to help with sound minds.....

Posted by jdat on Nov-20-2002 06:12:

I don't spend my time defending the USA and I'm not about to start!

WHY !?

cause you people won't back down

so what's the use I reply to your crap?

and anyhow I'm french, american and one day to be Swiss

uh

I think it's to complicated for some of you to understand that ones country's political point of view does not especially reflect the populations beliefs; and that criticism is an art which few can master. No country is white. All to blame, and America"s current position is due to years of pushing and teasing and harassing and non action by the rest of the world

Once again I do not support america's cause, just because actions are done in it's name. I support what I feel I want to support and if someone wants to call me a basher uh go ahead but I never bashed anyone and I feel the USA has the power to *change* the world, sadly enough they don't always do the job right.

well Howards head is so far up bushes ass, its hard to know where one begins and the other ends.

If a shitload of people attacked my country it doesnt mean i have to defend it, not if i know they are right, hell i bitch about australia even more, they call it the ability to think abjectiveley, I suggest some of you serously look into it.

This is a first. . . .since when did americans care what everyone else thinks? We know that there is a of things messed up in our country, but its like that every where else. But it just so happens that we are better than other countries in many aspects and ppl are jealous because of that.
and if someone bashed or bombed your country, youd stick up for your country as well as any other person would.

you also have the 'benefit' (not that i would call it that) of being supremely nationalistic in the European sense.

for instance, you already consider yourself swiss...how does that work exactly...

just wanting to live somewhere doesnt allow you to center your views there immediately. the US is different from Europe because all nationalities come together to associate with a NEW nationality, American, or whatever you want to call it.

your disenchantment with this country probably stems from your refusal to think beyond yourself.

i dont care whether you stay in the US, or do not. support any further actions, or not. all i can say is you would actually get the opportunity to do something, rather than just bitch (since you dont make a point beyond complaining), in the US.

and regardless of how 'great' Switzerland is, its not as open to individual change as the US...

the United States was built on people coming together to work for something better, not just whining about how they think they are some nationality they are not.

sorry...hopefully that isnt extremely personal. you just do not make a conclusive point at all|

i will feel sorry for you jdat when the draft comes along and you must put on an american uniform.

You obviously don't know me and felt it best to reply off subject just to say I *replied*.
I was born in France, I'm french
my parents are american, I'm american
I've lived in Switzerland 5 years, that's half the years required for you to become Swiss.
I'll be swiss one day
