Friday 144: Hurry Up and Wait edition

TGIF, COR wh00r3z. The wife has an MRI and a needle biopsy today. Her doctor fears she has lymphoma. Of course, we can't say until the results are back early next week, but the doctor has not given us any indication that it could still be X, Y, or Z instead of lymphoma. We'll get through it, somehow, if it is...but damn. Okay, I've bitched and moaned enough for now. Thanks for reading.

Would it be offensive to you to post a clip from an episode of Curb where Larry is inquiring about "the good hodgkins"? lol. :/

I really do hope you guys receive some hopeful news.

LOL, post away! I'm not familiar with the show, but I'm up for a good laugh. We are supposed to call if we have not heard anything by next Wednesday. I really hope we know something Monday or Tuesday, at the latest.

Supposed to warm up to 60F this afternoon. Much better than the -3 we had only a few days ago. I'm ready to get back into a regular cardio routine.

Bahaha, omg Curb is the best. I couldn't help but think of this episode when I read your shit news.

Meanwhile our days seem to be getting longer and longer. It's like her due date is so close but a million years away. Trying to savor every last bit of sleep I am getting.

I'm happy the week is over. Daughter had flu since last Friday and my wife since Monday. Both not able to get up for more than a couple of minutes. Just today some signs that it is starting to get better. I thought it would catch me too on Wednesday, but I could go work again yesterday and today, not feeling to well though. Our son only was more tired than normal and coughing all day, but beside that seems to have outrun it too. I also got some additional tasks like doing groceries, which probably took twice as long as normal. Then there was also a risk of getting poisoned as I also had to coke dinner

A week full of issues and work was totally in line. Things can only get better...

Well, yeah.

I'm having a quiet weekend. Got drunk both Friday and Saturday last weekend, then went for a meal on Monday and drank more wine, more beer. All good fun, but it's been a very un-dry January for me. Next week is going to be heavy as well; the first clubbing jaunt of the year. My head's been a bit of a mess recently, and whenever I have things getting me down my debauchery levels skyrocket.

Really sorry to hear what you're going through Zoso. I know this may come across weird and probably not much consolation but a friend who works in oncology said if I'm going to get one cancer, it'd be HL, because the treatment and survival rates are best of basically any cancer. In fact you're 10 times more likely to survive than to die from it.

Not weird at all. I am all for favorable statistics, and I thank you for sharing! Biopsy went well, just ran way behind schedule. Now we wait as patiently as possible!

I'm posting here just to say I'm hoping for the best!

Oh, and that vegetarians are plain annoying. I went fishing with a friend and a nephew. My friend got a small fish. My 6-year-old nephew got a huge carp. Me? Being the hippie that I am, I got the hook tangled in a freaking tree

Still no word on the results of the biopsy, so we call the doctor today. To say I'm nervous is a gross understatement.

Hopefully it is looking good, and they just want to make sure it really is all good before saying so, in order to avoid sending home someone who really needed a treatment.

Just got the call: Needle biopsy was "inconclusive". She has to have a lymph node surgically removed ASAP.

Hmm, so after the surgery what is the next step? Hoping that you guys both make it through this unscathed.

She has an office visit this afternoon to look over the MRI with the doctor, then he will schedule a procedure to remove the largest lymph node. Apparently the insurance will only pay for all this if a needle biopsy is done first, even though they can prove to be inconclusive.

Fucking hell, it's things like this that make me infinitely glad to live in a country with nationalised healthcare. It's fucking barbaric that you have to pay for life-saving procedures. Hang tough mate.

Thank you, sir. We shall. I mean, I get the concept of paying for a cheaper solution if it yields results, but from the way he explained this, needle biopsies are often inconclusive in this scenario, yet the ins. companies require it first, just in case...

Think of how weird it is to have both systems going on at the same time, Jack. Here in Brazil we do have nationalised healthcare, and Zoso's wife might well be able to have this surgery for free here - but the queue is so long we just end up paying a private insurance company for emergencies

It's getting like that here, thanks to the Tories extensively bleeding the NHS dry of funding. I'm still waiting to get into the hospital with my eye problem - it'll be a four month wait in total.

Unfortunately needle biopsies are very often inconclusive. Waiting sucks, but keep hoping for the best and hang in there.

Update: node removal is scheduled for Monday. Looking at the biopsy revealed what COULD be Reed Sternberg cells. But, again, he won't know for sure until after Monday's procedure. The doctor said he should know about 45 minutes after removing the node. Thanks to all, again, for listening to a man bitch n moan.
