Friday 152

After football training I missed the first half of our friendly play against England. But I didn't miss anything as they both forgot to score. Well England just did..

Tomorrow morning match-day for the kids.
Weather is getting better, but still below 10C.

F1 starts again down under on Sunday, no further plans except visiting my parents.

Another long, busy ass week at work. Been fighting some nagging back pain that's made it seem like an even longer week. Gettin' old sucks. I'm falling apart, team.

Fucking 14 hour work shifts. I'm a walking corpse.

Been food prepping for baby's meals and enjoying a nice glass of wine. Might play some Super Mario on the SNES Classic.

It's been a good day overall around here.

I should be writing a chapter of a textbook, but I'm here trying to understand if I should feel optimistic about Brazil's chances in the next World Cup... And ELO ratings are really bizarre.

Brazil's nadir was just before we won our fifth title, and we peaked soon after the 7-1. The hell is wrong with maths?!

Kennyzoid tried to make me his bitch yesterday but I stood tall & hangin in there. And lira is a top mod.

C'mon, man. I already apologized, it was an honest mistake.

I was already drunk by the time this thread was posted yesterday. I didn't even realise England were playing last night. The Netherlands must really be bad these days if they lost to us.

Haha no worries at all.
I'll try not to make you feel bad

You're sure you're not Nou, though, right?

Someone actually told me about 5 years ago that the Dutch Reign was going to come to an end. I thought they were talking bollocks until they told me they were an under 16 coach, and he'd been to Holland on an exchange type trip.

Basically, the Dutch had some kind of overhaul in their youth system (it being one of the best in the world) and they'd basically tried to streamline it or better said, do more with less money and the result was going to be the end of a good national side.

I still didn't believe him, but everything he told me is coming true. He also said the same of the Argentine system (although for different reasons) and it looks like that is playing out as well.

The chances the current Dutch team are successful in a forthcoming World Cup are like Leeds Utd winning the 'double'. They're mediocre at best and that really is too big a compliment. There are basically no top players left - it's mostly second-rate players. Who can't be arsed to go at full force for 90 mins, and then typically are all capable of analysing how it really should've been better but surely they're making progress...
It would be nice to finally see England do really well for once. But they should trash teams like the current Dutch.

If you ask often enough I might begin to doubt myself. But considering the way some of you speak of the Nou character betwijfel ik of hij in staat is correct Nederlands te schrijven.

Given you haven't even qualified, I'd say the chances are 0. Although Leeds can't win anything this year, so your statement is technically accurate.

I'm not a Leeds United fan, though. I decided to follow Middlesbrough many years ago, for reasons that are unclear even to me.

Nice, I'll take it for now. You're free to go, sir.

"What did you call my mother?"

I think it's not too far from the truth to say that Dutch football hasn't been able for years to actually continue to develop itself from the classic "Dutch School" whereas e.g. Germany, perhaps Belgium, imported the relevant insights and did develop properly. Now the Dutch have no way of keeping up with them, and clubs like Ajax now produce young players like the guy who failed horribly at Everton recently. Decent skills but lacking tactical insight and strenght to compete at the highest level. It sounds like the guy you spoke to got it entirely right indeed.

Fair point
I won't be surprised if we don't make it to the tournaments after the WC either.
Would genuinely like to see England properly challenge Germany and Spain etc.

This is the saddest thing you've ever posted on TA

Not just because The Netherlands is the team I love to love and Argentina is the team I love to hate, but because you didn't even mention the Three Lions, which means they didn't just get worse, that's how they've always been

I'm not sure I'm emotionally prepared to think of Colombia as our biggest local rivals. They were so nice after the Chapecoense crash, whereas Argentinians know we're pretty much like brothers so the rivalry is mandatory so I don't know wha--no, wait, there's Uruguay, never mind.

This! I was so young when England last reached the semifinals, I can barely remember... but it imprinted in me the notion that England are good and that's where they should be, except they've failed to get anywhere near that ever since

Haha nobody has ever referred to me in Dutch using the word kerel. Maar ik ben inderdaad een dude. Moest je dit opzoeken of spreek je echt wat NL?

I could however theoretically be a brilliantly programmed bot aimed at causing wz to throw tantrums.

Posted by wotyzoid on Mar-25-2018 07:13:

Nigga please, I don't throw tantrums. I blaze. Hack and slash, burn and destroy.
