Wow. Must be that sales have dropped off to the point it's easier to give it away for free. Also, every single one of them has been on youtube forever anyway so why not control the traffic.

Be just like enjoying them back in 1999!

Oh wow, I never knew there were more GUs after Seaman in Lithuania. 35 was the last one I purchased...

But this is cool, I've got quite the commute so I think I'll try and listen to the whole series in order, since I never did get to do that! Too bad Mixcloud kinda sucks on mobile and I hate how you can't rewind.

Lol, so true.

Tbh, the "old" hard house scene with people like Pete Wardman, Tony De Vit, Steve Thomas, captain Tinrrib et al was actually a lot of fun.

Unfortunately, that sound (which was really just faster, slightly harder house) got bombarded by a younger generation jumping ship from Happy Hardcore and it's demise (see Toytown from more info) in to Hard house.

Along with it, the sounds changed and it beamce Hoovers and Horns, which meant a lot of the older producers (De Vit, Wardman) who had a more "normal" sound fell out of favor.

Also didn't help that Tony De Vit died of aids. He gave his entire record collection to fergie but fergie really moved in to that new sound then tried to get in to techno which didn't really play out.

So it's just 007 New York except when Thrive licensed it for a US release along with GU 006,9,10,11 they simply renumbered them 1 to 5 - pretty clear I think?

UK 006 = Thrive 001
UK 007 = Thrive 002
UK 009 = Thrive 003
UK 010 = Thrive 004
UK 011 = Thrive 005

as per uncle Discogs

Yes. American releases were often different from UK ones back in the '90s. (eg: the sad saga of System 7)

A bit.

Lol... I didn't even notice in the first instance those are two links to posts not just one. Nice.

Thank me later for the additional views you're now getting

Ah I'd forgotten about them arsing up the tracklist on San Francisco.. bastards

Yeah they renumbered the series in America (the American 2 was my first purchase), then they retconned the numbering to be more in line with the European releases, including re-releasing the early ones with the 'correct' numbering. It's like what happened to the Final Fantasy series, but with mix CDs.

Took a bit of a listen to the Lithuania GU and... it's not bad? A little dry in spots but towards the middle of disk 1 it picks up.

Its not the only consistency problem GU has in its catalog. For whatever reason, several releases in the City Series are instead titled after their country, like GU: Brazil and GU: Romania, which were respectively set in Sao Paulo and Bucharest (and as recently as GU: Lithuania).

I guess for Romania and Lithuania, they probably figured most people would have no idea where Bucharest and Vilnius were :P
