6/23/2018 Dixon and DJ Tennis @ Gin Long Way (China Town) LA

Holy Shit!! They are playing in SF the night before but I just don't have the energy (balls) to do the 24 hour party trips these days. And all of sudden, this comes along. Tickets bought yo!

Looks nice, Party Animal. We should do a TA meet-up for this one, like the old school individuals we all are.

I'm down yo! These are rare occasions for Gina and I so any chance to meetup with my old school bruthas and sistas is for sure a must!

Dixon is the man

word yo! He's got this mysterious yet cool vibe to him. Not to mention great music. You don't get to see him perform here in the states so often. You rarely can find a recent live mix of his online (there are studio mixes but they all tend to be very experimental). And if you do come across a live mix, the quality is usually shit. It's exciting anticipating an upcoming performance.

sucks for west-coasters because Dixon/Ame/tale of us all these djs perform frequently in NYC and Miami. Dixon/Ame boat party in NYC was epic

and if they do perform here on the West Coast, are they really putting in their "effort". Historically, DJ's playing in LA are never playing at the top of their game. Very "meh" imo. I've always thought DJ's play a lot better in SF. The crowd is a huge difference.

100% accurate ive seen multiple djs weeks apart in NYC and LA and the NYC show absolutely shits on what they played in LA

Agree but often the crowd is a big part of that; For instance, a few years ago I saw Carl Cox in Vegas at Drais and when i left the club at 9:30am it was abolsutely packed , there was still a line out the casino and when my buddy left at 11am it was still going for it.

Two days later Carl played exchange. He was basically playing the same music, doing his thing etc,but the crowd was just odd; Persian and armenian banker types in cheap suits with overdolled girlfriends who didn't care at all for the music, tons of randoms who seemed like they just stumbled in to the club by accident, and then a hardcore group of cox/dance music fans. By 2am the crowd was thinning out and by 3am when it wrapped up, it was only about 80 hardcore fans on the floor (in a club that holds 1500).

LA crowds often suck because the clubs seem to just be about the "show" and not the music, and often don't understand how to communicate to people who will go out to see a DJ.

Bingo! The LA crowd (and the promoters that draw them) have always been a big complaint. A DJ is only as good as their crowd allows them to be.

Getting some mad flashbacks to vanguard back in the late 2000's when I used to go. I moved out of LA back in 2009.

Vanguards History:

Club Utopia > Vanguard > Create Nightclub > "Factory 93".

Supposedly, Insomniac has some sort part ownership with the venue (they were involved back during the Vanguard days). They're supposedly renovating the place to give it more of that Warehouse feel and will be hosting their underground nights there.

Cool1G is the guy with all the EDM news so he would probably have more info.

They're now called Academy, no? Factory 93 is at another location.

BTW, I know this is not the right place for it but nobody on here anyways so I'll just share it. There was a guy named Darin here and looks like Seb Leger is giving a shoutout to him

It could be called Academy. My friend was just talking to me about it in a casual conversation. Since factory 93 is more of branding, they may just be hosting it at the renovated venue.

As for the DJ, it sounds like Darin Epsilon who is a cool cat yo! Very nice guy and great producer/dj. Very progressive sound from the last time I heard him (years ago).

Interdasting.

So it seems Academy is doing mainly insomniac events with one or two dreamstate nights.

Lineups aren't terrible actually:

ewww... looks like my buddy was all wrong considering the factory 93 events.

Posted by DJ RANN on May-03-2018 23:03:

Factory 93 seems to be in the commercial area right next to downtown. But it's also owned by insomniac?

Wtf don't they own lol.

Love that space. Was at the outside area for Cox a few weeks ago. Great energy...passers by stopping on the overpass and the metro blarring it's horn on the way through. Haven't been inside to the warehouse yet.

Are you suggesting that carl Cox played LA a few weeks ago?

I certainly am. Played 2 sets actually. The after party at exchange. The outdoor show sold out in 25 mins.

Oh for fucks sake.

I swear to god, as much I love him, I HATE Carl's website with a passion. It barely ever lists his tour dates in advance, and it still not listing him as played in LA.

Please provide deets of the night? How was exchange? I like the club but the crowd as mentioned above, always sucks there.

Yass. You are the man. Thanks for the hookup.

this is right around the corner. Anyone else going?

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Jun-27-2018 14:54:

This party was SIIICCKKKK!! Dixon is definitely the man right now! I'd highly suggest checking him out if you get a chance. But his appearances (along with the other acts from the Innervissions crew) are rare.
