| "It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii," his publicist Diana Baron said in a statement. "He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given." |
Rest in peace, Tim

This came into mind:
Guy was pretty fucked up mentally, heard many stories about him being kicked off the decks for being too fucked up. I've heard he was a big coke head and drinker, I would bet he got into opiates and went down hill from there?
Sad as he was probably one of the biggest influences in the massive EDM explosion 7-8 years ago. Levels exploded, you started hearing it at ball games, commercials, then bam EDM took off and kids like Martin Garrix became mega stars.
Never been a fan of his music, but much respect for what he did. RIP
Not to shit on the dead, I don't' really get this statement (that keeps getting repeated) about him being one of the biggest influences as the timing is all off?
I moved to the USA in 2007 and dance music was exploding. Even the stuff I didn't care for like SHM and EC twins were huge, and Calvin Harris and the Mau5 were killing it on the big stages.
Then 4 years later Avicii cashes in on an already booming scene and now he's one of the most influential?
I get it maybe as an inspiration for Martin Garrix but christ, Joel was trolling Avicii
and Garrix (and their crowd) to their faces for being lowest common denominator tripe.
Don't get me wrong, levels was played at sports events etc, but so was Jump Around and Zombie Nation.

RIP Tim. This was such a shock. He was so young. He will be missed by many. He played a big part in bringing EDM to a broader audience.

i wasn't crazy into him but i liked his hits, hey brother & wake me up probably being my favs. levels was fun and catchy.
There is some drama going on involving an artist releasing an unreleased album in which Avicii collaborated with. And Tydi as well as Dave Dresden and other artists are calling him out over it.

Nice. Just a couple of days after the event and the festivities have commenced.
Love the automated "Thanks for the mention" replies when someone cites their twitter id in an ear-slapping tweet.
So happy not to mingle with that social media crowd...

I (thankfully) had no idea who Starkillerz was nor Nick Terranova but what a monumental asshat for trying to cash in.
If Avicii wanted that collab released, he would have done it 9 years ago when it was made, instead this guy unearths it, masters it and releases it just 72 hours after Avicii dies.
I have a feeling someone's going to get sued, hard, and lose.

Just EDM dudes doing what they do best, hustling.
Avcii's cause of death was an apparent suicide.

Life imitates art... not sure how many people have seen Tim Heidecker and Greg Turkington's 'On Cinema' series on Adultswim, but last year their Oscar Special revolved around Greg's concern that Tim (who had previously become a self-proclaimed EDM superstar off the back of one track) had killed himself whilst on tour in Dubai.
Well ive copped it from all and sundry of facebook for saying his death so young is sad..but all this talk of him as a pioneer etc is hyperbole.
Oh well.
I probably need to work on not being so blunt.
