Hot Since 82 - Buggin'

Anyone else feeling this one? It's riding high in the Beatport chart so I imagine at least some of you have encountered it. It's a semi-remake of Goldtrix - Trippin' from 2002, which I must admit I'd never heard of, despite apparently being a big chart hit at the time. Definitely has that early '00s vocal vibe a la Rui Da Silva - Touch Me or Kosheen - Hide U.

Have yet to listen to his Essential mix from 2013..!

i have to say that your assessment of this track is spot on

however i didn't know that you were into "trendy" music per say..

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Jul-15-2018 07:32:

I like music with a certain kind of groove and a certain kind of vibe. Whether or not it's "trendy" isn't really relevant to me. There was a long stretch of time where what you would consider trendy in dance music was a thousand miles from what I vibe on, and so I had to poke around in the obscure corners of the scene to get my fix. These days, if I go on Beatport, there will almost always be something splashed on the front page that will make me think "I like this, I can play this."

Generally, I wouldn't say I'm an enormous fan of Hot Since 82, but his label Knee Deep In Sound does release some good stuff and I keep tabs on it.

That's a really nice one!

you should make a new tech mix.

I don't like it. It feels like an ironic end result of the track it's trying to be. It's too obvious.

I need to make a six hour mix for the TA challenge, so there'll definitely be a good chunk of tech in there. And this tune, most likely.

Nice chugger of track.

You're absolutely right, it is a remake of Tippin' (how did you miss that? You had to have been living under a rock to escape that one) and it certainly does have the Rui da Silva groove. If that's where house is heading back to now, I'm all for it. I suppose it was en extension of the initial tech house boom, which then got chunkier and more proggy. Not a huge fan of the vocal but this would play well in a dark room club.

Thanks for upping.

No idea. Apparently it was in the Top 10 in February 2002, which is pretty much exactly when I started buying dance music CDs properly. Somehow, every mix compilation I bought in 2002 must have missed it, as well as every classics mix or retrospective I've come across since then.

I remember it playing everywhere during those days. This and FDH Sinnerman remix.

If I can remember correctly, this is the original:

I might even believe someone who told me that this was from 2002 or 2003. Though I feel like the percs aren't *quite* right for that time period. I dig it.

I like it, but as others said, I knew exactly what to expect being a fan of both the original and Hot Since 82.

In my late teens I use venture out in the tri-state area which was about 00-03 and this style does have a big similarity to kosheen and the locals would throw down tracks like these with tribal bangers too. I think it def has old school feel, I love it.
