Friday 191 The Christmas Thread
I'm still at work, but who's gonna eat too much in the coming days?
My big family Christmas is like 50 people, so this year we're ordering Chinese. We'll have turkey and all the trimmings on Christmas day.
I get to watch movers haul all my stuff to the new house tomorrow! So that means I am boxing everything today. No fun this weekend.
but monday/tues will mean lots of food for us and in-laws.
Mutha freakin prime rib.
Just finished work for the year, not back until January now. Going for a nice meal with friends on Sunday and then visiting family over Christmas. More than anything else I'm looking forward to spending plenty of time in bed doing zero point fuck all.

MIL and 6yo adopted BIL came by this week to visit for xmas. Even though we are visiting again in a week, I guess she wanted to travel up here? Little bastard had a cough, now I have a cough. I hope the baby doesn't get one, but he probably will. Gee, thanks kid.

Nothing worse than coming back from a long break to a full working week, especially in January when things are slow. Also, I've just discovered something slightly freaky. Every Christmas we do a raffle at work, where all the gifts given by suppliers and clients and so on are divided up and raffled off to the staff. Everything is laid out in the staff canteen and you just pull a number out of a hat and then wander around the room until you find your prize. I pulled a random number out of the hat and found I'd won a bottle of Prosecco, which was in one of those generic Christmas gift bags. I stuffed it in my bag and went home without anyone else touching it. Since then it's been sat on my kitchen counter all afternoon, with nobody else in the flat. Anyway, I've just been having a look at the bag, as I figure I can re-use it for my Dad's Christmas gift, and I've spotted a tag on the side that says "Merry Christmas Jack." Why the fuck would it have my name on it when I pulled a random number out of a hat? Even if someone overheard what number I'd pulled, why would they rush over to my prize and scribble my name on it, then vanish without saying anything? I can only presume it's some strange coincidence, but it's certainly left me scratching my head. Also, before anyone asks the obvious - no, it's definitely not been mixed up with another gift bag. As far as I know, we don't have any others in the flat, having used them all up last year. |
That'll probably get polished off on New Year's Eve.
Psh.
I have a par stock set on a few bottles of wine at my place where if one gets opened i buy a new one to make sure I have two full on hand. Theyve moved into vintages so they dont be around forever
Finished my last day of work until January 2nd. Gotta love vacation days.
Gonna do some housecleaning today and tomorrow, then start relaxing for the weekend. Prolly do some snowshoeing, maybe some downhill skiing too, we'll see. We're staying in town this year instead of going to Toronto (my partner and I), so the food is going to be off the charts at my family home where the festivities are. My dad always brings the big guns for the holidays.
We'll be in Toronto for New Years though... that will be fun
I'm off the 24-29. The first time I've had Christmas instead of New Year's off in 7 years. Quite looking forward to enjoying the actual holiday with the fam!
23 years. For 23 years I had been searching for a loop that I had stuck in my head, but couldn't find because... really, how can you expect to look up "drum loop that goes woo-yeah" and find something?
Today I found out it's from Lyn Collin's "Think (About It)" and, much to my surprise, I would have found it if I searched for "Woo! Yeah"
Thursday I celebrated my 15th anniversary with my wife, and that was the highlight of the week, but my Friday was all about this damn drum loop
Congrats Lira, on both accounts!
I got to leave early from work today, so now I get to enjoy the full day of celebrations with my fam! Yay!

The funny thing about the Think break is how the little vocal snatch makes it sound totally different when pitched up to drum 'n bass speed. It's effectively two iconic drum loops in one. |

Cooking Prime Rib Roast for the first time. Got the roast today and found a good recipe. I still need the ramekins for the beef awe jew
Congrats Marcus!
Today my grandchild got baptized, so now I'm officially her godfather! She did very well, cried, threw up over my cousin and burped in the church
It's nice that she got baptized in the same little church were I got baptized, received the First Holy Communion and got married. Downside is that I'll probably be there again tomorrow evening...for much longer...
Tomorrow evening as usual dinner at my parents with my sister and friend. Joining my dad to church while my mom will be singing in the choir and the others will be waiting and try to stay awake.
Sunday we'll visit my mother in law and by then I'll be wondering if I did succeed in my intention not to eat too much.
Thanks, and congrats to you too!

It's not quite 8am on Christmas Eve here, and I've just finished up the big grocery shop for tomorrow. Glad I went early, because at 7am it still took me nearly 10 minutes to find a parking spot
I guess everyone else had the same idea. All that's left to get is booze, but they don't open for another hour.
