Jay was Detained in China?

Does he still post here? I haven't been back in a while (sorry, I still love you guys and think of you sometimes), but I, too, have been living in China for a bit and just saw this posted on the China Reddit: "Man formerly detained in China recalls appalling experience". I'm quite certain that's Jay, right? If this is some form of doxxing, then delete this thread, but I think many of us have been quite open about our names so whatever right? Apparently it was for racially insensitive comments he made in a WeChat group in which locals reported him. There's some more info on that in this SCMP article.

Anyway, I remember him being one hell of a troll, at times an abrasive one, on here. Overall, though, I had the impression, especially from those of you who met him in person, that he was a good guy so his story was a depressing read.

If you're reading this, Jay, you definitely crossed the line but you know that and what happened after the fact is fucked all the same. Hope you stay safe and find some solace in the healing powers of TRANCE.

He has already talked about this, not at length but in his choppy, racist, Jay style blurbs. I think it's in the random thread.

I appreciate this is pretty bad for Jay and his life has been thrown into chaos etc. etc. But this whole story might just be the most deliciously ironic thing that's ever happened. I�m trying to decide which is my favourite detail: the fact the doxxing king Jay is fighting a legal battle to get his personal details off the web, the existence of an entire website the One Party has set up just to slag him off, or the list of the worst crimes they can think of to slander him with that reads like one of his average days on TA:

People commonly say but he was ok in person. While it�s true people often act worse under the cover of anonymity of the internet, it�s also true you get a better sense of what someone is like over a longer period of time and in a place such as a forum where they are free to share their thoughts. When you meet someone briefly in public they don�t reveal as much.

As it relates to Jay while he�s not a racist, I do think his behavior is revealing to his character. It sounds like he finally got his comeuppance and despite that isn�t contrite. I�d feel differently if it was an isolated instance or if he was younger but it�s just another instance in a very long history of this type behavior. It�s not that I really care too much because I�m uneffected by it and only mildly amused.

I�m dubious that TRANCE will heal anyone let alone Jay.

Some people are clearly having a field day portraying him as anything that may be deemed deviant in general. I doubt that's really him.

His Reddit account was all about him "looking for a bull" for his wife and, although his posts are long gone, this was picked up elsewhere. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he's now got a Tumblr account where he comes out as reptilian.

Tumblr has banned all NSFW content from their platform after discovering a child porn ring on the site. He'd probably get his account nuked within days with the kind of anti-porn bot activity the place has going there now.

Maybe getting out of China will end up being a pretty positive thing for you, anyway. My exit plan is T-minus a few months only.

Great points all around. I was trying to add some levity with the TRANCE comment -- haven't listened to it in ages (though I still return to quite a few of the prog records and a handful of older trance ones). I've been more fond of the house and tech stuff since like 2011 already ha.

When I first heard the news story re the WeChat comments, I really thought it would be a disaffected 20-something-year-old 4Chan warrior type.

Been too long! I'm OK! I haven't been on Facebook in, I think, about 16 months (good riddance, I suppose). I got married about a year ago. We'd been already dating for about 5 years prior -- she moved back to Shanghai a few months after graduating college, I followed, and 15 months later we tied the knot.

How have you been man? I'm so glad you're still here on TA.

Mate, congrats on the nuptials! I've been good, quite good, but you disappeared off Facebook years ago (and TA), so I always wondered what became of you. Always nice to see some old skool people drop by.

Yeah, I couldn't resist. A close personal friend of mine, the one who initially introduced me to TA, told me that he had been coming back lately (he was never really a CoR poster, tho) so I've been thinking about it.
