How good was trance that came out of Belgium?

Something about the music that was coming from that region...

Some names that come to mind include:
- Jonas Steur; and
- Svenson & Gielen

yeah Silent Waves was such a refreshing track to come out at the time.

svenson & gielen's remix of Ayu - Depend on you was top notch.

Yellow screen - Out of time

Tried to search for the regular "trance is coming back" thread, and found this thread instead. Wanted to share last fridays 4 hour Essential Mix by Amelie Lens. The segment between 1:30 - 2:00 is pure (hard)trance I think! Albeit of course without the cheesy melodies or ridiculous gimmicks. You get the point.

Not wanting to hijack the thread, but I just have to mention that I have big respect for most of the current A-Line female techno dj-s. I think they bring a certain "anything goes, hedonistic reckless abandonment" to the table which makes them very entertaining to listen & dance to.

It'd probably be more relevant to post that in the Tiesto thread further down the page.

He also claims trance originated in Belgium and that the Dutch simply borrowed or adopted it.

M.I.K.E. is right, Belgium made trance long before the Dutch came in the picture.

I thought it was awesome, here a few starting at 1990:

Are we really this far into the thread without mentioning Marino Stephano?

I wonder what the Germans and British will say about this claim that "trance originated in Belgium"

This is the interview where MIKE talks about Trance coming from Belgium.

https://youtu.be/PZ4SeHITzTU

He says Marco V confirmed it on Twitter.

Wow. Bonzai were massive in the 90's and still managed to survive the 2000's when vinyl sales were slumping and digital sales were more prevalent. I believe they're still around too.

They went backrupt in 2002 and returned in 2003 with the flagship "banshee worx" concept. Now they called Bonzai Progressive. One of the best labels ever.

This may be opening up a whole can-of-worms but I just saw this on Discogs:

"The first wave of what many now consider to be "classic" trance peaked in 1992 and waned in 1994, and was dominated by producers and labels from Germany and the UK."

https://www.discogs.com/style/trance

They also say Age of Love (from 1990) is sometimes pointed to as the earliest "pure" trance track. And I know that while the Age of Love duo were Italian, the famous trance version is the German Jam & Spoon mix

Trance began in East Berlin in the late 1980s.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on May-07-2020 11:42:

There were a lot of sounds circulating around '89-90 that could be considered "proto-trance". There are records from many countries, including Belgium, that could fit this description. But "trance" as a recognised musical movement is 100% German in origin.

which country is legend b from? between all the metal and grunge 'lost in love' still made it to the prestigious PKC cassette tape for listening on the school bus.
