Anthony Pappa.....

Of all the prominent DJs out there, he is one that has yet to do an Essential Mix. Anyone know why?

Any other DJs that who have been around for a long time that have yet to do one?

Kimball Collins. one of the greatest dj's from florida.

is he still around ?

Anthony Pappa is still around. He seems to be turning up on my Facebook feed quite regularly during lockdown. He mainly plays in Australia these days, which is perhaps why his international profile has dipped.

I'm surprised Michael Mayer has never done an Essential Mix, especially in the mid-2000s when Kompakt was one of the hottest labels in the world. He recently did a series of "Wind Down" mixes for BBC Radio 1 so it's not like they've blanked him completely.

Anthony actually posted about this on his FB yesterday. Looks like he'd like to do one.

I would have loved a Essential Mix from Anthony Pappa around 2000/2001.

Other people I'm surprised never had one:

The Orb / Alex Patterson

Quivver

Jonathan Peters, though I don't know what his profile is outside of the NYC area.

DJ Icey has an album called "Essential Mix" but no EM's under his belt.

Blaze

Fehrplay

Joe Clausell

Oliver Huntemann

Johnny Vicious actually has one....

I'm surprised bout Fehrplay. I'd like to see Eelke Kleijn do an E-mix

Yeah really sad that John Graham never had an EM.
But on the other hand. Did he really DJ? Can't remember any sets from him.

Yes but any live DJ sets?

Posted by Midlothian on Jun-16-2020 13:51:

Plenty of live DJ sets. Here in The Netherlands he played at Extrema festival, Nighttown in Rotterdam, Kremlin and Renaissance World Tour @ Escape in Amsterdam in the early 2000s, and at Bedrock, Selador and Get Frisky nights at Amsterdam Dance Event in recent years. To name just a few places. Also the usual central/eastern European places like Kristal in Bucharest, XIII in Moscow; Space in Miami, etc.

He's (re)scheduled to play a back-to-back set with Dave Seaman at the Panama club in Amsterdam in 2021, but that might be slightly optimistic still.

I've seen him DJ live three times. He's pretty fucking good actually. Perhaps back in the glory days he could make enough money from record sales to not need to emphasise his DJing career, but similar names like Oliver Lieb and Chris Cowie known mainly as producers managed to bag an E-Mix.

Word!

I saw John Graham in January 2013 and he ran out a track before restarting with the next one. People make mistakes so I'm not going to judge his skills as a DJ based on that one gig.

The game "type a DJ you think hasn't done an EM and find that he has" is fun. Finding all kinds of gems this week.

I'm amazed Satoshi Tomiie never got one, as that guy was nothing if not hot in his time.

Also noticeably absent from the roster is Jimmy Van M, which is surprising considering he was a Bedrock mainstay and how tightly he ran in the UK prog scene.

As for Big Pappa, his installment for Balance is a criminally underrated one, at least that first disc and all its proggy breakness.
