Invisible Grin NHL & More: The Ice Hockey Thread!

Thats right, All about Ice Hockey.

Ill start off saying that Im a big fan of both the Penguins And the Islanders, unfortunately both teams aren't doing so great this year.

I just want Mario to win the scoring title this year.

Always cheering for the underdogs...GO YOTES!

Posted by farley on Nov-15-2002 06:35:

For me it's all about the Ducks. Suprising, since I live in CO, but I was born in Anaheim. I'd like to see them do something this year, especially now that they picked up Oates and Sykora. Oates+Kariya on a line is almost as fun to watch and productive as Kariya and Selanne were back in the day.

My friend is a violent Sabres fan, fuckin painted his face red and wore his Satan jersey on halloween.

He might not have a team for long.

Living in Edmonton, I hope the Oilers do well but I'm usually let down. They've had some promising results recently though.

At heart I want to see three teams do well and one do poorly:

Sharks (Hopefully they can get their shit together in time)
Habs (So much adversity every year but they rise above it)
Sens (I always liked this team)

Leafs (I love tuning in every Saturday night to watch them lose )

I've always been a Kings fan. They have been doing pretty good the last three years under head coach Andy Murray. We don't have that many stars but we're a competitive team that won't give in easily.

Jason Allsion is our key player who is out for a couple months. That will hurt us big-time. As long as the Kings have more wins than losses during Allison's absence, I'll be happy.

The season started off a little weird with Minnesota and Tampa Bay getting points left and right. It's pretty interesting to see how things will end up this season.

Hockey Season is officially open. One things for sure, the Red Wings won't win it this year.

Hopefully they'll stay in Buffalo. Someone local needs to buy them asap.

I just wish we got national hockey night out here in co other than on satelite, Don Cherry cracks me up.

Who cares about the Sabres? They're the sole reason a REAL hockey town didn't get an NHL team 10 years ago. Hamilton go screwed out of an NHL team because the Sabres whined that their ticket sales would go down. So I ask the question.....so what?

Anyway, I cheer for all SIX Canadian teams (used to be 8) over the rest but I'm a Montreal Canadiens fan at heart. No offence to the yanks, but I hate how they're taking Canada's game over and making it shitty. The NHL is so crappy these days....too many teams and too many players that aren't good enough for that level. Hockey was the best in the 60-80's....now it sucks.

Gary Bettman also sucks. Why an American and former NBA commissioner is running the NHL, I'll never know.

a hockey thread without a leafs fan is like a trance thread without a pvd fan

so i guess i gotta be that leafs fan

it sucks that they're not doing so great right now...and i think mogilny's out
so...things are looking downhill from here

Posted by Projekt4.o on Nov-17-2002 23:12:

I don`t care how the Leafs do in the season, the only thing they got to do is get into play-offs that`s where the all hell brakes, and somehow the Leafs always do very well in play-offs, I hope this year will be the same like last year, tho they get into the stanley cup finals and not the conference finals, like last years, and got schooled by Carolina

GO LEAFS GO

So what are you predictions on whos taking the cup home this year?
As long as the Rangers dont take it im somewhat happy.

Posted by Projekt4.o on Nov-19-2002 02:14:

Well I hope for the Leafs to take it, but they have to start gettin better each game and stay like that till the end of the season and play-offs it will be really hard, tho I think they can manage, plus what I heard there might be some big moves before the trading season is over, so who knows.
Other teams that I see as contanders for the Cup are Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils. tho Broduer plays to many games rite now, I think he played all the games in the net as we speak, Colorado Avalanche and maybe the Ducks, if the they start playin better.
Big suprise up to date is I would is Tampa Bay, , tho they won`t do nothin much in the play-offs

Posted by Strike on Nov-20-2002 21:58:

i think that dallas or new jersey will take the cup

leafs r getting better
belfour has stepped up in the past few games
but their scoring is too unbalanced

Posted by zarathustra on Nov-21-2002 02:26:

It looks like Dallas is making a charge this year. They might have a question mark in net but Turco is looking quite solid right now.

Detroit is a perennial contender too, don't count them out, especially when Stevie Y comes back. I hope they don't win it so Joseph can go somewhere else and finish his career cupless. Serves him right for turning his back on us.

St. Louis is looking good also but, as always, they don't really have a goalie. I don't envision Braithwate leading them to a cup but, then again, who would've thought Bill Ranford could lead the Oilers to the promised land in 1990?

Boston is on the way up too.

If the playoffs were to start right now, though, I would put my money on Philly. They have all the unknowns in the equation right now.

Of course, it is still early and things will change. Colorado is due to wake up about now and, let's face it, Minnesota and Tampa are not going to win their respective divisions. They have to learn to walk before they can run. Just like the Islanders last year.

Anyway,

GO SHARKS and uh, GO OILERS

Posted by puckhead on Nov-23-2002 20:42:

it's amazing how well St.Louis has been playing with so many goaltenders out injured. but i don't see them as a powerhouse even with a healthy team.
and the Ducks have been playing pretty well but they still suck
GO KINGS!!!

Posted by Projekt4.o on Nov-23-2002 22:14:

well i see everyone is tryin to predict who is going to win the cup this year
then I have an idea, each person here has a rite to pick one team that he/she thinks will win the cup, and will see at the end who got the rite pick, if anyone , since I made the rule, I`ll go first I predict the winners to be ..... no one other then.... the LEAFS :

Posted by sebby on Nov-24-2002 10:49:

I believe coaching experience and goaltending gets the team to win the cup. I'd have to chose Leafs or Avs but I'm doubting myself. It's really hard right now, especially with some of the league rule changes. I'd like to wait until the All-Star break before I give my final decision, if that's okay.

One things for sure is that I'll always stick to my team.

GO KINGS GO !!!

Posted by zarathustra on Nov-24-2002 19:56:

Hell, why not, Bruins will win the cup.

Posted by FrOstY on Nov-25-2002 18:48:

I'm a huge hockey fan and Ranger fan. it has been tough the last few years. they havent done that well so far but i still have faith in them. Bure and Lindros are too good to do as bad as they have been. once they get going, they should be fine

Posted by zarathustra on Nov-25-2002 22:54:

I've always wondered about the Rangers. Why can't they win?

Posted by sebby on Nov-26-2002 00:27:

Rangers won in 94'!!!

I agree, GO KINGS GO! the main reason i like them is cause i like Potvin, he is a great goalie. Guess what other two teams i like :P. With the exception of the Islanders, TO and VANCOUVER. Vancouver is doing awesome so far, and if Eddy can turn it up a notch, TO will make it far again this year.

Posted by Joca on Nov-27-2002 07:30:

Well whoever makes it to the playoff's will have chance at the cup, except any team from the East. The East is just too damn weak. As for the Nucks, they're looking pretty good. Still a little inconsistent and they're D has looked shakey at times but they're off to a good start and coming together as a team.

Cause they suck!
They only have a 60 million ( i think ) payroll and still can't beat the Isles.

lol
it's like a jinx
once they put on a rangers jersey they automatically suck
what's up with Bure and Lindros this year??
even that ageless wonder, Messier has more goals

Wayne Gretzky once was asked, What was the worst NHL ice rink you've ever played at? His answer without hesitation, Madison Square Garden.

I'm guessing that's why the Rangers can't win it (with the exception of 1994). Unless you want to start believing in the curse of some spirt and shit like that. Yeah!!! Holy Spirit, woo-hoo, shaka-laka voodoo, bring on the ghost of christmas past. LOL!!!

In reality it's all chance. You either win or you don't. It's as simple as that. No matter what players you have, it's how that team performs together. It's all about who's willing to step up and go towards that extra step. It's also about playoff experience too. But the Anaheim Angels baseball team are one of the few teams to defy that because they really played together as a team. Each team has their own chemistry and towards the end of the season, only one team will be left standing.

The Rangers along with many NHL teams out there fail to win the cup because of what I just said. Notice how it's been the Wings, Avs, Devils, and Stars winning the cup the last 8 years. The Wings, Stars, and Devils received new coaches. History shows it that the chances of winning the Stanley Cup with a new coach is very slim. Even though the Avs aren't playing to their expectations, they are the team to beat this year, because of their roster. Their players are still around and they still have Bob Hartley. So based on the gambling version of analyzing things, I'd go with the Avs.

So my pick for the 2003 Stanley Cup winner, Colorado Avalanche!!!

I still hope the Kings whoop their freezing ass!!!
