First time poster, LONG time reader and leecher... hehe
So yeah, to give you an idea how long, i first came here back in the days when Ferry Corsten - Live at trance energy was posted as a live set to download....
I feel kind of guilty being here so long and not being a part, so i will try harder now!
Anyway, to the point, ive been looking to buy some dj gear, namely, some turntables a decent mixer and maybe a cdj of sorts. Keep in mind, i am a poor bum, so TECHINICS and PIONEER stuff is completely OUT OF THE QUESTION!!!!
What im interested in finding is a online website located in aus that has a great range and decent prices? Does one actually exsist? Im located in melbourne so any 'physical' shops could be useful aswell....
Currently i have been looking in www.123dj.com Sure its an american shop but they have a nice range and cheapish gear....
I probably have about a grand to spend, maybe more if i can be bothered saving/working more hours....
Any help is greatly appreciated!
P.S Ill have a look around for some other threads of similar nature so dont flame me too hard....
i don't know much about turntables's that are quality + cheaper than technics, but, whatever you get, you want tt's that are direct drive.
so anything that has 'belt-driven drive' or something like that, put a fat line or X through it and don't even think about buying em.
i'd say go for ebay.com.au and search for some 2nd hand turntables... u could prob find a bargain there if u keep searching long enuff
also try: www.storedj.com.au
i dunno if they sell equipment in ur price range (they might) itz aussie based company and i think they ship things free
I wouldnt mind getting this turntable
http://www.123dj.com/turntable/gemini/sa600.htm =$140us/$250AUD
And at an austalian website
http://store.yahoo.com/dj-basement/gemsa600tur.html = $635AUD
Does anyone know what kind of shipping prices one is looking at for 2 turntables from america?
Theres almost a $400 price difference for the same turntable.... Surely shipping couldnt be $400???
i dont know anything about buying turntables but hello and welcome!
Welcome!
Check out www.djbasement.com and www.storedj.com.au for online websites that ship anywhere in Australia. Are you absolutely positive you can't wait a bit longer and save the extra $$ for Technics?? I too was ready to buy some cheap gear for $1200 but then i spent the extra got some Technics and haven't looked back.
While non of the cheaper model TT's can compare to Technics. Any pair of direct drive decks will serve you well enough to learn all the skills of DJing they start around $500 a pop. Be warned though once you touch a set of Technics you're gonna hate cheap decks. With the mixer make sure it has 3 band equalisers and if possible replaceable x-faders. 3 channels and kill switches are also nice to have.
I've seen starter packs around the place going for $999 try and steer clear of these because they are usually belt-driven tables.
May want to check the buy and sell section of inthemix.com.au and also your local trading post for any second hand deals on Technics. Should be able to pick some up for around $1500 second hand if you're lucky.
Hope that helps...

shit thats a huge difference
shipping it by sea/land wouldnt cost 400 i think, but it would get here super slowly.
Dont go to 123dj. I've read some really really dodgy stuff about them on other forums about them taking your money and not delivering, giving dodgy excuses each time about how it will be another week, another week, ah should be there in a week, etc.
Also, if you buy American tt's, remember that they won't fit into your power points. You'll need adaptors and stuff, and that is really anoying.
You're best off going to a store so if there is a problem, you can take them back.
Well they're these new Stanton's coming out that look very promising. Bit cheaper than the technics ($100-$200 cheaper) and have some interesting features.. Like the ability to be able to change the tempo, without changing the pitch/key. Optical out. Strong motor. There's a topic in the DJ section of these forums about em. And try out different decks. Just because they're not technics doesn't mean they're not good. It all depends on how the decks feel to you..not somebody else. So you could well turn out saving a few hundred bucks by not going for technics. Just do a lil research
welcome to the jungle mate
We got fun and games ?
Heheheheh
Cheggy, you wouldnt by any chance have a link to these 'other forums' that review 123dj.com, or any reviews of them at all... theyre prices are pretty cheap and im still interested...
Thanks pointyDC, ill have a read around
