REMEMBERING: 2 Unlimited

Well, it was tight race, but 2 Unlimited won by a nose . So without further ado:

REMEMBERING 2 UNLIMITED

*Sigh* Ultimately an act that should never have broken up . Anita Doth and Ray Slijngaard formed one of the most revolutionary dance/techno acts of all time. Hitting us with such songs as No Limit, Get ready for this, Twilight Zone, Faces, and The Real Thing. Starting back in 1991 till their tragic breakup in 1997. I still recall when Ray came to EC for their last performance but with some other bitch and not anita that was lipsynching to their old hits.

I heard that there was constant fighting between Ray and Anita during 2 unlimited's demise in 97. Some even physical (so I read in BRAVO back in the day, for all u Euros).

In 1998 the producers of 2 Unlimited decided to replace Anita andray with the 2 bitches pictured below (yeeeech!) and obviously flopped soon after that.

I stillwish that these 2 would coem to turns and do a new trance Album of some sort. But Ray producing RnB and hip hop now and Anita having dissapeared off the face of the earth (to my knowledge) we will never see that.

Share your memories please, these guys were great.

Now, did anyone else here EVER had a huge crush on Anita? I did. Back when I was 11 lol. Wonder what she looks like now

Well, she got chubby and doesn't look as good as she used to... I read somewhere that she is pursuing a solo singing career somewhere in Holland.
Ray on the other hand is still looking good... don't know how the business is going, but the last time I've seen him he didn't look too happy (cuffed, taken into custody for attacking a reporter/shoving a camera down his face or something)...

They both disappeared from the face of the earth.

The very first dance track I ever heard was 2 Unlimited - Tribal Dance. I still remember it, as if it was yesterday - we have just moved to Israel from Russia(1993), purchased a TV set, got our cable television. I was browsing through the channels and eventually stumbled upon MTV(there was no MTV back in Russia, but I heard about it). Within an hour of watching it, I hear 2 Unlimited - Tribal Dance, and immediately fall in love it.

I guess that's how my love for dance music began, which eventually led me to become a Trance fan.

"No No No No No No No No No No No No There is no Limits"

The best group ever!!!!!

This is the reason why I got into dance and techno and now trance and progressive as well.
I totally love all their music, you have no idea how much I enjoy listening to their songs. Once in a while I'll hear one of their songs and I'll jump up and down singing and dancing my heart out....I totally love them and I still do.

Too bad they had to break up---but they are still remembered by the people like me who started loving this music because of their beats and energy.

Great Topic!!!

Same here... the first tape I've ever bought was the "No Limits" sometime in '93 or something. And that's where it all started for me...

Favorite song --> "No One"... the best video too!

haha, i remember when i got my first 2 unlimited tape...

then me and my mom went into some lighting store to buy lights, and i was listening to my walkman dancing around and imagined them playing there. it woulda been an awesome place for a music video.

fav song: workaholic. i'm a sucker for the swears

hehe would you believe me if i tell you that i've been to their last concert ? yes ladies and gentlemen THEIR LAST CONCERT EVER where Ray & Anita performed for the last time together ! it was in Casablanca-Morocco during the month of may 1995 if i'm correct i went there with my brother and all our friends , i even remember they bringed some Dutch local talents : a black DJ from Surinam probably and a "spice girls" type band with 4 blondies they played all their hits AND IT WAS PLAYBACK OF COURSE but still we all had a great time because we never get concerts with foreign artists.

and i don't need to tell u that i've been listening to all their albums and i bought the best-off one etc ...

They're alright!

Dr. Alban and 2 Unlimited were the 2 very first tapes that I ever bought back in 1993, and the no limits masterwork can be still found in my car almost a decade later. Theres a number of songs on that tape that are really good so I cant particularly think of a favorite as they churned out anthem after anthem. They can certainly be blamed for the genesis of the trance addiction.

and yes I had a bit of a crush on Anita as well back in the day

Am I the only one here who saw them perform at Nitrous? I still have the poster of the checkerboard and the dalmation... I think it was Nirous 012, but its possible it was 013...

Ah yes....the group brings back memories, when I was an avid club goer...

They definately made an impact in music, hell, every sports PA still plays their samples...

Nooo, not at all! I just loooove 2 Unlimited, I think is so kewl that we are remembering our roots man, it's like a passage in time. Great, absolutely great. I also remember my clubbing times...yeah you might think I just started clubbing being 22 and so, but the first time I went to a club was when I was 14, drinking and all

Can't wait for the next remembering series...Dr. Alban is it??
