Which hd should I get?!?!

Since this forum is frequentlier checked & this isn't per definition a 'gaming thing' I want to post this in the Chillout forum instead of gaming forum:

I'm going to buy a new Harddisk,

I'm choosing between these:

DiamondMax Plus 9 120 Gb, Udma/133, 7.200 rpm >> 204,-

DiamondMax Plus 9 120 Gb, Udma/133, 7.200 rpm, 8 Mb cache >> 232,-

Seagate Barracuda V ST3120023A,120Gb 7200rpm 9ms Liquid Bearing. >> 225,- euro

Western Digital WD1200JB, 120Gb 7200rpm, 8Mb >> 249,- euro
WD Caviar SE 120 Gb, Udma/100, 7.200 rpm, 8 Mb cache >> 241,- euro
i guess these are the same, only different prizes (diff. shops)

IBM HDD 120Gb 7200 rpm IDE ATA 100 >> 210,- euro

I have heard IBM sux, I own a Maxtor 30 gig hd 7200 rpm atm, never had any problems with it and I owned a Quantum fireball 1 gig (ghehe, was/is in my pentium 75 mhz system)

I searched, but couldn't find any test,

can someone help me with my choice?!?!

Thanks!!

Kamaya.

I buy nothing but Seagate. Having seen some of my friends having so much trouble with their HD, my seagate have always been running smooooth. Never had any problems with any seagate I have ever brought. Quality stuff.

thanks for the info, haven't found much more then individual tests:

WD is very good, what I've read, but how about the errors n stuff, which brand will last the longest!?!

I have beaten my WD Caviar with loads of mp3's, movies and games
(Fxp dump)
and it has been running smoothly all along..
buy the caviar!

i heard via this board that the IBMs suck...but thats not necessarily true.

it was simply their early huge drives that ate shit. my 40GB has been fine. alt ive never really had big issues with hard drives...late|

Yeah I'd go for the WD caviar. I have 3 of them for a total of 250 GB and they are awsome, no problems at all.

I have teh WD120JB. no problems yet except for "low" disk space. I got it for $140 from dell when it was really cheap. I also have a Maxtor , no problems yet except for low disk space.

Id say go with the Seagate, never seen one die. and with that liquid bearing youll get alot less heat and alot less noise

I would go for the Western Digital.

I bought a Western Digital Caviar XL 80Gb 7200rpm last year & I haven't had any problems with it so far.
It's filled with 80 gbs of electronic music only!

From personal experience, I can tell you to avoid WD at all costs. Their old HD's last forever, but their new ones suck. I had one in my pc for about 2 years then one day, it just died without warning. I put another WD in there and within a week the needle was physically broken and skipping, rendering it useless. A friend loaned me a computer for a while with a WD in it, ran ok for a month or 2 before it, too, died suddenly. I wont buy another WD again.

I reccomend IBM. I have them, they come with a 3 year warranty.

IBM reduces warranty on hard drives soon
IBM HAS NOTIFIED its North American resellers in a "Dear customer" letter that it is cutting warranties on all Deskstar IDE drives from three years to one.
The change will come on the 15th of November and applies to all drives apart from the 180GB IDE 8MB cache drive, part number 07N9216.

Oh, and don't forget Maxtor... they also reduced warranty to one year.

do not go anywhere near IBM deathstar hard drives. Also dont touch fushitsu. Both have been having a lot of hard drive troubles lately.
