Segway(One of the best new inventions) is now for sale on Amazon !!!
For those of you who don't know, this is an invention which is likely to change the way we move around cities !!
There was a front page story about this in Time magazine.
Check it out !

Ive read the specs on it. Impressive...they went into detail about motion mechanics to motor build. They didnt mention anything about durability tho...say if you were to crash into something?(u know..after some drinking at a club haha). And is it all climate...like would it work as good in the snow...would the motor stall in cold climates? And also, they didnt mention the battery life..how long that would be. As you know...other rechargeable batteries like Nickel Cadmium has somewhat of a lousy battery life. And its often recommeded that you use a batter ill all its potential is lost before recharging, so would there be a disclaimer for this? that would be pretty shitty eh...ur zipping thru downtown toronto..on ur last bar of battery left and it stops on you lol.
It is geniusly designed and engineering, kudos to them...its certainly a step in the right direction. But its almost 5 grand...I can get a used car with heating and the assurance that a normal automobile offers me. If I'm gonna walk thru grass..I'll use my feet thanks
All in all, I think this is a toy for the rich folks
well, it's the first batch, that's why it's so expensive... If it goes big, I think that within 5-6 years thing thing will cost no more than a grand.
lol yea
How about I buy a motorized wheel chair
those things have seats!
I would only buy it had a seat and dome covering or something to keep the cold out. There is no way that would work in Timmins when it gets like -40 degrees C.

As far as I understand Segway is good for driving downtown or some shit like that... I wanna see how you will drive your car in downtown Toronto or downtown New York.
i think it can go 15 mph max or something like that. it is basically a big toy. i have been involved in Dean Kamen's (the inventor) FIRST program for years and for the last 2 years he hasn't made a speech without riding in on the segway.
i wouldn't pay for it but apparently ppl having been asking to buy it for quite a while before he was ready to market it. it is really cool - i don't think it has a motor but it works on gyro sensors.
It looks totally rediculous.. have you seen those business people on scooters? It's hillarious. I can understand a kid or some funky people, but not suits!

and finding parking? .. a challanging experience..
It's all about perception. Have you been to Holland? I've seen people in business suits riding bicycles! In fact, bicycle is the most common mean of transportation in Amsterdam. It looked strange to me, but it's normal in Netherlands.

I think thi thing is cool if you are going downtown. Ok. but around the house? to the store? Whatever happened to the old tradtitional Bicycle? Are ppl nowadays too lazy to use their own human strength? Instead the prefer to be drifted off by a 2 wheeled machine. Like I said. for downtown it is great but eveything else?? C'maaaaan. Don't be lazy and let it replace "your feet". You have to remember that there is people who have had their legs amputaded and ppl that are parapeligic who would kill to be able to walk again. Seriously. Don;t take your legs for granted. To me, more or less, it seems like a device for ppl who are too lazy to walk 3km or less.
Damn this shit is funky, and fast. Now I dont have to run to the bathroom, just Segway my way to it. he he. Just think of the possiblities.
this will be a new event at the X-Games
Half pipe segwaying
freestyle segwaying
segway high jump
Xtreme Segway

as if our streets weren't congested enough, now we got these things to watch out for/run over...

I believe you guys fail to see the point.
The Segway is not just another scooter for kids to do stunts with... its a next step in human evolution. And there are 2 main reasons why the Segway is so big and why it will change transportation as we know it.
1. The Segway has motors but they are rarely in use. The machine was designed to use no energy. And, as seen, it actually works. A person has to step on this platform and bend forward and the Segway moves forward.. etc.
2. Imagine a car that has stopped on a red light downtown Toronto. The car takes up quite a bit of area of the road. If you think about it, about 8 segways can fit comforatably in the same area as the car takes up. So, for every car that goes off the road, 8 segways can be put on the street which means 8 more cars go off the road... etc. This would lower the traffic congestion by an order of magnitude... or more.
Buddy thats what a bicycle's for, but ur probably just as lazy as the rest of these segwayers
Kewl! Those things are F-in' ugly....par'don me but if you feel that this will revolutionize human traffic, let me tell you something....I would not endanger myself nor anyone else with that piece of barely-usage motorized piece of trash.....
True, it saves energy but your point of "Revolution" here will not stop the GM, Honda or any other Automakers from making their profits...who's gonna shut them down, you? The Segway? I doubt it....
Oh well, there are enough cars as it is...and people would rather stick to a well-built automobile over some beta-testing toy...
For $5K, you can buy a decent honda civic with 200,000kms or even less...and still will have more mileage this Segway will ever have...
Talking about Segway, how long do you think the tires last? I would say about 8000kilometers or less...
Reality sucks....but this is just a re-invention, not a Revolution...
JKX
Ok... I didn't mean to offend anyone, and I didn't want anyone freaking out... so I will be blunt with you.
Face the facts.
-3 segways take up the space of one bicycle
-the segway uses no energy, compared to a bike where you exhaust yourself
-you stand on a segway, no plastic between your balls while you rotate your legs
-the segway was thoroughly tested, otherwise it wouldn't be on sale, and it wouldn't be bought out by thousands of people
-if you want to compare the prices of a segway to a honda civic you should think more deeply. Think of insurance, maintenace costs, repair costs, and if or not, lease or whatever the other payments are
-i will guarantee you the tires are more durable than the tires on any car (where did you think of this tires idea...)
Moreover, the inventor is a millionare scientific genious. You think he thought twice about competing with GM and other car companies? I believe so.
Car companies... watch out.
