need some help, if you dont feel like helping out, dont even bother peeking inside.
I have a Research paper i need to do in my International Relations class, and i have already thought up a couple of good topics, but i thought since TA has this wonderful forum, perhaps some 'wonderful' people (doubtful) could help me out here and throw me a couple of topics they think would be good for a research paper. Also, im a freshman, so dont give me anything to insane. Thanks in advance, peace,
-ftnb
(ps: it can be on practicaly anything pertaining to international relations or IR theories).
International relations
How about import export trading between countries and how that effects international relations? Just a thought. Maybe too insane?
hi'ya ftnb, im willing to help you out... i can help you find internet sites or material if you want. what topics in the international realm interest you? what are you passionate about? usually its good to pick a contraversial topic cause they usually have lots to argue about in a paper... plus profs just love those who bring good rational arguements agianst stuff they belive in.
some topics...
* the newly formed Interntional Criminal Court
* the topic about how nations like to stick to together and form coalitions (NATO, EU, Arab League)
* developing countries vs. developed
* Africa
* Refugees
there are countless more
Joker: naw, i need something perhaps a little more in depth, that is kind of general i suppose, but thanks anyways
and its not to insane, so dont worry, you dont need to check into any asylums:P
izzy: thanks alot, i had thought about the international criminal court as a topic, but my sister got it before i did, so i coulndt use that one, and on the second topic you advised, i had had a similar thought, but it was more on how these coalitions (EU, nato, etc... ) and international laws and how they are working to dissolve or erode state soveriegnty...?? ... and i need a little more info on the 'developed vs developing'... and if i where to use Africa, what would my international standpoint be? ...perhaps how africa is probably the country that is in most need of support but recieves minimal support from the super powers of the world? ...i dont know, seems there are some good ideas, but i need a pretty specific, and genuine topic, if you could help out perhaps by brainstorming a bit on each topic, and perhaps finding a specific one, that would be really cool, thanks alot man. Also, pretty much anything in IR interests me, but more so the diplomatic side than the economic, im not to into economics...more of how state actors work within the global system and what not.
Seems interesting!!! Those are some good suggestions Izzy. Wish I'd come up with them
Good luck with your research Brian
(sorry for not helping out
)
how about:
difference between american relations to canadians and mexicans
difference between relations between n.korea and iraq
Does it have to be on modern international relations?
Because you could write about the period between world wars .. sooo much material there! I studied that topic for advanced modern history in my final year at high school - one of the best subjects i ever took at school!
Good luck
for what its worth, academics love it when you relate events in practice to theories about how things should work, ideology if you will. They love compare and contrast sort of essays.
My suggestion look at international relations from an ideological perspective.
Perhaps look at the success or failure(depending on your perspective) of international institutions UN, ILO, World Bank, IMF from an ideological perspective, how would a Marxist analyze the actions of the IMF compared to how an Radical conservative/american view the actions of the IMF.
Or compare the first era of globalisation (the turn of the 20th century to WW1) to the current era of globalisation or compare the ineffectiveness of the League of Nations to the ineffectiveness of the United Nations.
Or look at why the international community apply international law against some violators of human rights such as Apartheid era South Africa, the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq and ignore international law when it comes to others,Israels unlawful occupation of the Occupied territories US invasion of Panama etc.
stuff like coalitions seems like a good idea
A good topic would be the war of the Triads.
US, EU, and Japan.
Trade relations and the recent protectionism.
