Question vinyl cutting services, anyone interested

hey

I might have the possibility of cutting vinyl records and was wondering if any of you would be interested ?

Now as you may all be aware, the equipment is rather expensive and add to that consumables, setup fees , shipping and before you know it , it gets a tad expensive but still here is my plan

15-20 for the vinyl cutting
5 dollar setup fee per side
5 to 10 for shipping

So let's say at the most 40 us$ for a two sided , two track vinyl.

That is cheap compared to industry standard cost for dubplates, and might I add.
The plan is to make them with Vestax vinyl cutter=superior cutting quality and resistance, so your vinyl will last literaly for year and the wear will far out perform dub plate acetate vinyls which wear out after 30 or so plays.

I would also consider cutting special prices for 5 or more orders of the same vinyl, and a minimal reorder fee were you willing to have recut the same vinyl in the future.

I would offer the service with extras such as :
mastering
logo design
shrink wrapping
and so on, at an extra fee, which in the case of a white label isn't all that necessary , hoping everything you'd wished for in the final product was taken care of higher in the line.

Supported media would be following :
zip
cd r
dat
minidisc

and here's one solution I might consider doing is setting up temporary ftp accounts for someone to upload his couple tracks , what do you think of that?

oh and please, refrain from asking me to cut from white labels or copyrighted music or at least keep it discrete

I am posting this in the dj forum and production forum as well seeing the interest is on both sides.

Feel free to give me any suggestions, ask any questions, and SHOW YOUR INTEREST!

I do not wish to do this hoping to make money in return

the startup investment , would I actually start this up , would be rather considerable.

I will be looking into CD duplication services as well ( which will be less needed I know )

Anyhow keep the comments, suggestions and feedback coming.

I think this is a really good idea. I would definitely be interested in your service when I have something that I think it's worthy. That's a pretty big when however

I think this should be made a sticky.

Damn strait. I'd be in for about 6 of my tracks, with several of each pressed.
P.S. Taub: That is a no-no. You'd have to be ultra discreet about full out bootlegs like that. (not that I havn't been tempted to that with some old skoole trax)

Posted by Fresh on Nov-21-2002 15:48:

I would be interested

I have about atleast 10 tunes I need pressing

Just make sure you lower the individual price for larger orders and I will be happy..

Posted by P`zazz on Nov-21-2002 16:31:

well, I will def be a customer but I must warn you, this is quite risky. It will cost you a hell of lot of money, somewhere around 15000 UKP if not more

What is more, I was told by someone that works at a music school (or something like that) in the uk that they have the vestax vinyl cutter. One day an expert was giving a lecture about the stuff and he tried to press some vinyl, each and every one turned out shiet and he kept saying that it's because it needs special lighting to work properly and that the temperature is not steady and that is not good for the cutting process blah blah blah.

I have a definite interest in a scheme like this.

I was even considering doing something like this myself!
I have plenty of tracks waiting to go onto vinyl i have remixed/produced so this would be a godsend!

Gettin vinyls cut for personal use is really a bitch because most companies wont touch you if u want less than 100 copies of the same track!

that's vinyl pressing which is totally different

in theory you could get ONE vinyl pressed by those same companies

but that would be outrageously expensive cause there's a big cost involved in doing the master molds for vinyl pressing.

once again , this is cutting ! not pressing

jdat, can u please not do this again, posting 3 threads in the 3 forums all exactly the same. it's so time wasting merging and deleting posts, i've left it here for now, but if u want me to move it to another forum let me know.

Posted by bomez on Nov-23-2002 11:58:

I think I might do that but in the future I got no money and I don't have my own doe now song that I like so much for getting it on vinil!:-)

I have friend that might be intrested!

that would be nice but as if the cuts aren't crappy!

Posted by tu_face on Nov-23-2002 12:12:

me = v.interested.. its relatively easy for me to get the records to DJ's.. its just always been the cost thats held it back for me..

when would you be looking to get this scheme started? and how much capitol would be needed?

Posted by Dave_Masters on Nov-23-2002 12:36:
