tech 1200s or numark ttx1???

i have been using my roommates 1200s for a while now and have finally saved up enough $$$ to purchase my own turntables. i have been looking at the 1200s which i have been working with for a while and also the new numark ttx1s, which look pretty convincing to be a good substitute for the techs. which do u recommend? any response is appreciated.

ttx1 - be a rebel.. In long run I think it will pay off..

I say go with the Techs...because I'm one of those people that will constantly go on and on about why you should get Them. 8 months ago, I was in the same position as you, I saved up for the Techs, and I can't say I regret it. People will say otherwise, just so they can say something different.

I'm also in the same position in desciding which table to get. I belive that the main choice is this: You have an excellent table that has withstood the test of time in performance and durablility, vs something that spec-wise is better than the tech, but has more risk associated with it because it has NOT withstood the test of time.

So far, I have not heard any bad comments from anyone who has owned a TTX1, though there have only been a few that I've spoken with that have used both.

Price also has a lot to say about the tables too. Technics are the only tables aside from the new ttx1's that retail at around $700 (though you can usually get them for between $400 and $500). Companies have entire departments dedicated to price determination and the fact that Numark has chosen to price their tables in-line with techs means that they honestly believe as a company that their tables have the capability of over-turning the techs as the next standard. I'm also not saying that it isn't possible that the price is high because of the new and novel technology along with it's recent release--and that the price won't decrease slightly over time.

My point is that I believe that these two tables are both very good. I also believe that you'll be happy with whichever table you finally descide on. I am personally going to choose the TTX1s over the techs. I am doing this because aside from the stats being better on the TTX1, it has very readily replaceable parts (I have wire chewing dogs ). This is an important feature for me. I also like the fact that the numarks look a lot more modern and sleek than the techs 20-year-old finish.

I don't want to get into an arguement over "why techs are so much better and will never be overthrown etc" Those threads are pointless because they never offer up any objectivity. What ever you descide in the end, as I said, you will be very happy with either table!

This type of topic has been discussed before, but ill throw in a couple of words.

Perhaps the numark beats the technics deck statistically and spec-wise. However, you cannot beat known durability and peace of mind, like already mentioned by flesch. Shit, there are a couple of models out there from Vestax that "outperform" on paper the good old 1200.

Another thing to consider is this:
If you plan on spinning mobile, only with your stuff, thats fine if you decide to get the numark, vestax,,, or whatever.
Keep in mind though, that if plan on spinning in clubs, you will 99.9% of the time find a technics 1200 MK2/M3d/Mk3...
the problem with that is pretty obvious. If you are used to higher torque, better response, or even worse torque and worse response on the turntable, it will mess up your timing (assuming its a different deck that your used to), and make it difficult to mix it up.

I use the 1200s... regardless what type of torque i can find elsewhere, I know that when I spin a certain places, I will find the same deck that I use at home, and of course, these things will last you for years and years... treated properly.
Finally, you can get Technics new at 399 bucks. If you want to save your self some money, you can purchase them second hand, as I did. Obviously, just make sure you see the turntable for yourself, check out the tone arm, make sure the turntable plate is not damaged, etc. You will be amazed of how many people try out djing, dont like it or have the patience, and quit. There are many people who sell in good condition (almost new) 1200s for cheap, around 250-300 bucks.

A lot of you say that it's good to get techs because if you spin at a club or a party, chances are they will have techs. It's not the equipment guys. PvD probably has the same skill 1200 or ttx1. I have used 4 different types of decks (1200, vestax pdxa1, pt-2400, and some beltdrive ones I can't remember) and it only takes a couple minutes to get used to the pitch, startup speed etc.

I liked the pdxa1 over the techs, and the techs over the pt-2400, beltdrive last. I can't sstand only have +-8, and my vestax decks have way faster startup and slow down speed and they are a number of years old.

Just trying to say that in the near future chances are you going to have to say goodbye to your pretty 1200's

PS. Techs are still the sekziest looking decks I have seen though!

Haven't we all heard that one before. Manufactures have been making different turntables (direct drive) for many years now, and still Technics 1200s remain the standard in major clubs worldwide.

I dont see any type of effort or any talk of the same major clubs going with different decks. The only place Ive gone where there were different turntable was at some underground party, where they had vestax, and those guys were no where near pro level. To be honest, things wont change until technics stops manufacturing the good old 1200. The way djs see it is if it aint broke, dont fix it. A turntable is there to play back the record at a consistant speed and with stand the demanding use of a pro dj. The 1200 is able to provide that. The turntable is not there to provide special effects, etc... that is why clubs have mixers and other gadgets.

Technics are industry standard, half the stuff on the numakr you don't need. If you want to end up playing in clubs allbeit small ones, then technics are the only option

i say if you cant chose get both!

but that is kinda pricey. theres not much more to be said on this topic. it all depends on your needs. you can't go wrong with either decision. I got the technics when i started and haven't regretted it one bit.
I would like to pick up some ttx1s tho if i get the chance.

i have some Numark TT-200 Pro, the model underneath the TTX-1 and they're really good for the price < i know that sounds n00bish but i aint got time to express my real feelings, i may do later though

thanks for the response guys. i think i'm gonna stick with the 1200s since i have been using them for a while now, and yes they are the most sexy tables i've seen too.

fraz - i was gonna get the tt-200s too but i thought i'd save up a lil more and just get the techs. i know a friend who has the tt-200s and they are pretty good too. they are really good if you have a limited budget

ok, they've gone down a bit in price since i baught them, they were �250 each which is like �500 a pair.

but they are beautiful to mix on, the torques just right, doesn't rip your arm off, the features are excellent, its got reverse, 33,45,78 rpm, nice quartz lock, smooth as fuck pitch adjusters, and the interchangeable tonearms are great. if you havent had chance to use a straight, you dont know what ur missing!!!
The platter is really stable too, aswell as the whole thing looking gorgeous, i think its one of the best turntables out there, and im not just saying that cos im biased cos i baught a pair. i baught a pair cos of the reasons i just mentioned
