ive been thinking about a DVD burner but the initial cost of the thing is fookin expensive, they are like $250+....ouch for someone on a budget. i need something to backup my mp3s thats faster than a tape backup which i have but dont use cause its slow, and holds more than cds cause backing up over 20gb on cdrs at 4x is rather time consuming with my current burner. i think im going to temporarily settle with a 48x (only 50 bucks) cd burner and just burn like 30 cdr's. at that speed it should only take a couple hours @ about 3 mins/cd .
maybe ill just get a firewire drive like photo_bot said.
all i know is i need more space
250$ is nothing for a dvd burner, stop lamenting...
I mean, geez, yes, it IS money, but technology is dirt cheap nowadays, and you get A LOT more for your money than you used to... ;(
in 1999, I payed 300$ for a scsi 6x CDRW
in 1996, I payed about 800$ for a 1 GB scsi drive (which failed me in 2 weeks after the purchasse.. gay Quantum :whip
and 16 MB of RAM
in 1996 (still) I payed 400$ for an Iomega Jaz drive (1 GB).. Each additional 1 GB cartridges (have 4 of them) costed me 90$ each)//
in 1995, I payed 400$ for 8 MB of RAM
in 1994, I payed 250$ for an Iomega Zip drive(100 MB)
in 1993, I payed 300$ for a 2X CD READER
etc etc....
all on 1 cd? lol i wish. More like 100+ cdrs.

thats alot of trance per disc!
I am strange but I reckon investing in a second hard drive is the way to go
Backing up several gigabytes worth of mp3s to CD isn't expensive but it can be time-consuming, and DVD-writers and writeable DVD discs aren't cheap. The biggest pro from my point of view though is the fact that copying mp3s to a second hard drive is incredibly easy, quick and flexible in that you can add, delete, move and edit your mp3s without having to burn them all again.
