Carlos.... You will have to decide what would be best, cause depending on the situation, club, people, what you want to show the people.. things can be different
Where are you going to spin at? Are you going to be following after another djs set? If so, what type of music will he/she be spinning?
Is this a loungin type atmosphere or energitic?
As a dj, you will be the host of the night, and need to have control. Give the crowd what they will want to hear, but still control the tempo and throw in some of your own personal flavor. Relax, have fun.
To be honest, anyone at the forum cannot really tell you what is appropriate, because they wont be there... you will have to kind of learn through your experience, once you see for your self.
Give feedback on those questions that i asked, and maybe we can provide some advice to really help you decide whats best.

Peace,
Ricky

yes, ultimately YOU are the DJ...
you need to see how the crowd is going, and who you are playing after, what type of music they were playing and what sort of energy level you have to carry off of
or if you're starting, what sort of atmosphere you're playing in and that sort
or if you're playing after a headliner, then you might want to look at starting off strong and bring the energy down progressivly or keep the energy up if there is a dj playing after you
you make the decision, YOU are the DJ

I personnaly like to hit it hard on the first track

but this is all depends on your own style really

and a good thing to do is to mix your track in with the previous record ( if there's a dj spinning before you ) ..... I hate it whenever the upcoming dj just turns off the previous record.

Techno is not as happy and melodic as trance. I reccomend that you should start the set with some trance tracks, something with a nice intro like solarcoaster which you mentioned. No bassline at the beggining, just some strings and melody. Then proceed to some harder trance, in order to get the people moving, and if you want, end up your set with some techno. They won't understand a shit if your previous tracks were awesome! it works!

Thanks for all Suggestion.... and what about starting with this track:

Ayla - Ayla (Original Taucher Remix) ??

The Intro is very good... but maybe the track is too fast to start a set ??....

Yeah, thats what I was meaning.

*goes on and puts on ayla*

yep, that's a good one to start with, one i have used myself actually.

i prefer to start with a record that has a nice melodic beatless intro for two reasons.

one, it sounds nice for the crowd, to be brought slowly into the music before the beat drops and they need to start dancing (hopefully)

two because it's damn near impossible to mix those long beatless intros in and have them sound good, so you may as well play them at the beginning! (same goes for long beatless outros on the last track)

I hate it when a mix starts out with.

doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-doof, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, doof-tish, TISH

it's so boring.

then again, if you are mixing into a previous DJs set, i think it's good to keep the flow going, in which case i like to use a record that has a beat intro, but quickly dives into a melodic piece to signify that you have now taken the decks and are in control.

I like to start set out with something epic in the beginnin of the tune...

ex: - Flutlicht - Icarus (Daedalus Mix)

so that 1st tune is a banger but not over the top, so that I can build up so that by the 4th to 5th song is exploding....

Cool

carry on the vibe from the last dj

Posted by Vizay on Nov-26-2002 00:09:

Dj Tisto - Magik journey

2 minutes intro that's just plain sweetness.... that would be my choice at least

i say if it's your first time. take a variety of records, the more the marrier. this way you can always cover your ass no matter what.
and since it's the first time you spin get a set prepared of exactly what you are going to spin, i know it's kind of cheating, but it will give you more confidence, later when you are more confident you can improvise and go with the flow.

but yeah, just like a few people mentioned, it all depends on the dj before and after you. I mean if you are just doing the warm-up. you don't wanna bang out all the best tunes. the people that are organizing the party will never ask you to come back, at least not very likely. you have to make yourself stand out make yourself individual. make your set individual, try to play less know records that you love.

if you are playing as a headliner, which I doubt, but you never know. than you have the freedom to play what ever you want.

hope this helps...

Thumbs up

I agree with the other guys.
I currently use alot Armins remix of "Seven Cities" cause of the great (and long) intro. Solarcoaster is a great tune two but the Intro is too short for my taste. Also liked to use Deep Sea but that has way too much energy .
mhhh and what do you do for the outro? Do you use outros or do you just let the last song play out? Taucher - Pictures of a Gallary(marc n ace mix) is great for that.

project medusa exor part 2

if u can get the vinyl

damn iw ould kill for that

Solarcoaster is an amazing track, but that's why I wouldn't start with it. That's just too good to spin right away. You've gotta drop that at the peak of your set. Then take the energy up from there. In my opinion I'd start off with something like James Holden-Nothing. This is another amazing track, but it builds up so nicely and it's just so perfect to get things started. That's just my opinion tho.

my essential intro tracks:

Sonorous - Second Sun (Mirco de Govia remix)
Gaia - 4 Elements
Unknown Source - Force of Nature
Viframa - Cristalle (Katana Intro Mix)

Afterburn - Fratty Boy is perfect for a epic/uplifting set

or I also like Joker Jam - Innocence... a nice little intro and a nice mellow track to get the ball rolling

Posted by JohnSmith on Dec-10-2002 07:21:

yep, that's the BEST. starts of (in my opinion) the best live recorded set EVER DJ Tiesto - Magick 6

Posted by mettkea on Dec-11-2002 16:28:

I always start my sets off with tracks that usually don't have a heavy beat in the beginning. Examples:
Neurotic Jock - Therepy (original mix)
HERNAN CATTANEO - Deeper Layers
etc...
