Best Buy is selling DJ equipment.

Okay, I don't know if you all know, but I checked out Best Buy website, and they are starting to sell Technics SL-1200 and Pioneer CDJ and DJM series. At first glance, I thought, "Okay, maybe Best Buy will give me a good on DJ equipments." But Best Buy is a nationwide electronic super store. If they are selling DJ Gear, then every kid on block want to be a DJ. I am sure it's just waste of good money. I've talk to friends that was into DJing, but they never touch or spin with a DJ gear. They end up reselling them at lower price. That is not smart. Now another thing. What does this means to us professional DJ. We work our butt off to mix and get new records. Thank god, it didnt cost me a life for djing. Me and you the person who works very hard for our passion may just end it because some idiot DJ is out there performing for the first time, and totally blew it. Best Buy is giving us Djs a bad name. We might as well go search for another career. Well that just my 2 cents..Drop a line below me.

Your post is dogmatic. Let me explain what I mean by this. First of all, the technic turntables have been available from bestbuy from as long as I remember. From what I've seen from the regular, non-on sale price is it's not very different from retail Technic price. Secondly, it's not logical to blame best buy for, as I assume, the introduction of turntablism and djism as the latest fad. Many of societies' other venues have accomplishished, at least attempted this goal. Thirdly, you unfairly assume that every DJ that buys his or her equipment from Best Buy is instantly out to get you, and give your "DJ Reputation" a bad name. If you buy a Yugo, and it breaks down the next day, do you never drive a car again? No. That doesn't make sense. I don't understand how this person can END the passion you have for DJ'ing merely by performing (who knows where, what club/promoter would accept a beginning DJ?). I appreciate your concern, but understand that Best Buy has been selling turntable equipment for a very long time now. It is absolutely unfair to blame them for any supposed demise of your career. Just my two cents.

Furthermore, most of the DJ equipment sold at Best Buy is only available through their Web site - you won't find that equipment in stock at all inside most of the brick-and-mortar Best Buy superstores.

Just make sure you do your job as a DJ, and let the other kids in the neighbourhood think that they can be DJs like you. Go hunt some opportunities and you'll never think about those children! After all, for God's sake, DON'T STOP DJING BECAUSE SOMEONE GOT YOUR JOB AT THE CLUB YOU WERE RESIDENT! LOOK AROUND BETTER AND FIND SOMETHING EEEEEEEEEELSE!

I really dont understand why you are paranoid that kids shop at Best Buy. If they are really into DJing, they'll get into it no matter where they buy equipment. If they're not, or they find out later they don't want to do it, they'll most likely end up selling their equipment to someone who holds more interest in it. Either way, if someone really wants turntables, or any other equipment for that matter, they're going to get them somewhere.

It amazes me how many people on this board have such a purist attitude towards DJing. That's horse shit. Everybody starts somewhere, and if someone is genuinely interested in it, then so be it. They're allowed to do that. It's their choice. If they suck, someone along the line is going to have the brains to deny them a gig and tell them to practice. That's how people like Tiesto and Ferry Corsten and so on got where they are. They practiced a lot and have been at it for a while now and have gotten very good at it.

Best Buy isn't giving anyone a bad name by selling turntables. There's really no connection there at all.

And your career is what you make of it, not what Best Buy decides to make of it just by selling turntables. You can determine your own success.

i highly doubt anyone on this board is a professional dj (however congrats to those if you are ), and if you are professional like you proclaimed to be...then you should have nothing to worry about with kids going out and buying tt's

in fact you should be happy, because that means more poeple will be interested and more people will buy your cd or come see you spin

Best Buy huh?

first I would like to say....cute picture Kimmie.

Then the real question is........HOW MUCH IS THE GEAR THERE???

I heard that CDJ-1000s are 869.00 there which is cheaper than any other store I have found.

Very tempting indeed. I can see my self getting a couple of those just cause I can't pass up a bargain. I have a problem about buying too much gear.

Techs seem to be overpriced there.

I say (PROPS TO BEST BUY IF IT'S CHEAPER)
Screw them if it's more expensive.

I don't care who sells it...I just care that I can use it and drop my music on it.

Peace
