Reviews on the file sharing programs.. which programs to use after napster?

Napster / www.napster.com
Probably the best known file sharing program out there. Mainly cause of Napster being sued etc :-)
The free sharing will soon be over. So take advantage of it while it lasts. The filtering is really killing napster now
For a napster unban go here:
http://www.geocities.com/rwonl/NapsterUnban.html

Audiogalaxy / Satelite / www.audiogalaxy.com
Mp3s only
Its a free web based file sharing program
There are many users, and there is no way youll ever get a "transfer error"
It will probably be the best alternative to napster. Sometimes the starting of the download takes a little long
You can Resume your mp3s

Audiognome / www.audiognome.com
It's a program with a napster like lay out. So it will probably look familiair to most of u people .
You can connect to several servers and the possibility to find what you want is very big.

WinMX / www.winmx.com
It lets you simultaniously connect to different servers as to get more and better results
Can search for any file type
You can Resume

Limewire / www.limewire.com
People have different experiences with this software.. Most of the time its pretty good
No Resume function
can transfer almost everything: text files, programs, vids, mp3z...

Kazaa / www.kazaa.com
It has slow searching, the community is getting slightly better..
Can transfer almost everything

Filefunnel / www.filefunnel.com
It searches on many servers, therefore gets you more and better results

Gnutella / www.gnutella.com
Its been out for quite a while. It doesnt need a server to operate (unlike napster)

Bearshare / http://www.bearshare.com
Gnutella based program, it's ok

Imesh / http://www.Imesh.com
Naaah dont try it

Other less known programs

aimster / http://www.aimster.com/
spinfrenzy / just chickened out for the IRA not gonna have a file sharing function nmore
filetopia / http://www.filetopia.org/
Scour (exchange) / http://www.scour.com

For downloading:
Search the programs on www.downloads.com

Audiognome is pretty friggin sweet.... sometimes, though, it seems as if people have a difficult time DLing off of my comp.... hmmm.... but other than that, i would say that it rocks...

There's this excelent program called "Morpheus" that uses Radio City database and you can find 99% of the stuff you're looking for there.
I can't remember where I got it though so if you want just beep me at icq: 1916354

Happy downloading

On cnet the people only gave Morpheus a 60% approval. Here's what one person had to say:
The worst mp3-sharing programm seen so far. You MUST have macromedia flashplayer 5 installed. You can NOT choose which file-types to share, only folders can be (un)shared. It incorporates the Windows-Mediaplayer which is a security-hole. Dont wait long for Files to creep up that will exploit Morpheus once you click on them. Everythings active and automatic here. User-options are not on high demand it seems. If Morpheus doesnt find its sites, it will auto-connect you with Microsoft or Macromedia so you can download supposedly missing codecs and plugins. Be sure to forbid your Explorer to allow ActiveX from running - It isnt necessary to allow that. Don't ask me how why it runs anyway. Upon connecting Morpheus will open f.e. 73 new connections. And send f.e. 8 Pings. Dont forget to block their Adserver. The filename of the songs found has to be scrolled in for every search, unless you like to read hacked-off 50%25-correct names of groups and songtitles. Gone are the times where you could have several search-results on-screen in parallel. Happy times for bandwith killers in search of porn. Here it is: Loose your bandwith in search of music to downloaders of porn-vids. Thanks so much for this Musiccity ! If this isnt your downfall, then the next version will need to be your Salvation. Away with Macromedia, Explorer, Mediaplayer and "any-filetype-will-do" integration. It is NOT necessary. I want MUSIC.

only 30000 gigs ? Geeze man u have seen nothing... Use limewire. The downloads are fucked. But u can download from more than 1000 TB... yes Terabytes, at times
all i can say is mwuhahaha

*bump*

Posted by arno on May-07-2001 12:34:

I also use limewire, can find almost everything that's filtered on napster. I'm downloading urban train now, a song i'm trying to get for quite a time but with no luck since napster filtered it.

Posted by DJMD123 on May-07-2001 23:15:

I use Napigator which seems to be working very good. If you don't know this program allows you to choose your server, while still using the napster program. Has anyone had problems with using Napigator?

Posted by Linx_da_cat on May-08-2001 00:12:

naw haven't had problems with napigator, but in the end you're still confronted with all the stupid filters and shit. so i just stopped using napster altogether pretty much.

Just use limewire, i'm also not a computer freak. And it works pretty much like napster so you won't find it hard to use.

Audiogalaxy www.audiogalaxy.com

Limewire www.limewire.com
