3rd Deck

Hey, I was just wondering how many of you guys have a third deck?
Lately I've been wishing I had a third one, especially when I'm spinning techno.

I have, altho I can't use it at the mometn because my mixer only
supports two decks, but all that will change next month when I
get my Vestax PCV275.

*DROOL*

I'm planning on getting a Numark TTX1 as my third deck when I get my bonus in Feb.

that should be cool as a third deck.
im assuming you have a matching pair for the first 2?

Sometimes when mixing techno on my 1200's I add another track off a cdj100 unit... thats untill I'll have money for a 3rd 1200 or the skills to justify it

so 2 cd decks and then a TTX1 for your third deck.... sounds like a good set up to me. I'd prefer to have 2 TTX1 with the mixer inbetween and the CDJ's on a raised platform above the turntables, or either side of the turntables.

yeah I am still contimplating whether I should go for a really good CD player, to spice up the sets, with newer tunes or just get a third deck. what should I do?

just curious in house and shit 3rd deck is primarly used for accepellas or just plain beats etc. when spinning techno how does the third deck come in? is it just like 3 tracks at once? cause thats intense! respect to the beatmatching skills!

exactly that's why Carl Cox was one of the first DJ's to ever use 3 decks at the same time!

it's like that "row row row your boat" melody thing done in school
you will usually have 2 tracks playing at once
it sounds great when done properly
your mixing skills have to be good
cause one slipping beat and you correct the wrong TT...
everything just falls to shit
i just want to add 2 cdjs, a sampler, and maybe a synth or drum machine or something like that

Ok

Talk to those in the know. 3dex are pointless unless you're playing techno or house, where it's mainly beats and overlaying a 3rd track will not ruin the overall feel of a mix.

For trance, go for an effects box instead, that's what I did last year, and I haven't looked back.

You'll notice Armin has started using one in ASOT, and G/gold has same box as little me when he plays at Peach weekly, and absolutely loves the thing. Hours of pleasure believe me.

I think that it is much more prevalent in house and techno that you can use three decks at once, but that doesn't mean that you can't find use for it in trance or other genres.

First off, I am getting a third deck because I want to be able to use different mediums (vinyl AND cd). Second, I don't have to use the third deck for every track/transition etc. There are several songs that I know of that sound increadible when overlapped. If you find three or four of these tracks, then you can spin a few each set...find more, new ones etc. Then go for it. As I said, just because you have a third deck doesn't mean that you have to use it all the time.

Posted by Tony Morello on Nov-26-2002 23:38:

yea
you don't have to use the 3rd deck every transition
actually, sometimes i wish i had a 3rd deck, and i play hard house
i get the 2nd track beatmatched and ready to go
but then i sit and wait for the breakdown or somethin like that
in that time i could be beatmatching the next track
then you can tease or do some cutting or something like that
although i can already do that with just 2 decks...
anyway... if you have the skills, try it out

oh yeah what kind of effects box do you have, I've been thinking of getting one, just not sure what to go with.

I'm plannin on getting 3 gemini pt 2410 (I can only imagine how they will look under the 6 black lights in my room) I was thinking of getting a dual cd player...but tt come first

Posted by mongeone on Nov-27-2002 05:28:

mmmm threee decks i want so bad!!! towuld be so good to be able to do beat delays, over?@laps and flanges during sets without having to miss out on the first breakdowns plus during long transistions could go scratch and sample crazy!!!! turn a normal mix into a trance trick set!!!

mmm loving it cant wait to get another one!!! would like a sampler as well especially for echo on scratching love that effect

Posted by Arsalan on Nov-27-2002 08:37:

hmm, that is a good idea i wouldn't mind getting a cd player or an effect box.

I might go with cd to be able to use cds( Got 2 shi**y a** 1520)
At least they are Direct Drive

Posted by Tony Morello on Nov-27-2002 09:08:
