Newbie Trance CD

I want to create a trance cd for my friends, but i do not know what to put on it for the songs. I want mostly uplifting trance songs, but others you guys think are great too. just give me a good trance set.

put a bunch of johan gielen...dj kaycee...dj scoooby....atb....AHH and throw in sum a track by tiesto to add a lil deeper dose

I'm on the same boat. I want to make a cd for my hockey team, but I'm not sure what to bring.

I think I'm gonna spin my own Hard Trance set, since I cant find any set that is banging all the way through.

I also burned Chicane @ Palladium and Nu-NRG @ Orgasmatron 05/05/05. Hopefully between the 3 cd's there will be something they like.

Start off with more dancier trance, and then move on some more trancy stuff.

I'd say start with:

Way Out West - Mindcircus (Gabriel & Dresden Mix)

about halfway through you should be up to stuff like:

Push - The Legacy

and by the end, be at something instrumental and uplifting, i.e.:

Can't just throw newbies into "Sunset on Ibiza" right off the bat.

why did you post your winamp playlist?
just expose their ears to what you like yourself and then you will find out if they like it or not...

just buy Astral Projection's Amen album to impress them with incredible synthwork... Or Infected Mushroom, people I know who've never heard of the trance genre seem to gravitate a little towards IM stuff.

Depending on your friends' attitudes to trance I would suggest that you try mixing 'anthems' with more 'underground' stuff;

When I say anthems I'm talking about tracks like:
Veracocha - Carte Blanche
DJ Tiesto - Suburban Train
Rank 1 - Airwave (Original Mix) or (Dutch Force Mix)
William Orbit - Barber's Adagio for Strings (Ferry Corsten Mix)
Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Armin van Buuren Remix) or (Atlantis Mix)
Driftwood - Freeloader (Driftwood Remix)
Peran van Dijk - Good Time

And when I say more 'underground' stuff, I mean tracks like:
Fire & Ice - San Antonio (or indeed most Fire & Ice stuff)
Airwave - Save Me or Airwave - Alone in the Dark
Rising Star - Clear Blue Moon or Star Theme

Hopefully that's enough to be classed as helpful

I'd say if you want to get you're friends dancing to trance.

Better pump yourself to Cheese.

Everything from Cosmic Gate, DuMonde, S.H.O.K.K., Altitude, Flutlicht, DJ Scot Project, etc.

The thing about trance is that you can't just compile a generic list to represent the genre in it's entirety...because trance(to us) is more than just electronic music, or more than just music in general, throwing in a schlock full of classics or McTrance(pop commercial shit trance i.e Heaven, 9PM, Let U Go etc...) won't do...and that's one of the fallbacks in exposing people to trance.
How are you gonna try and comprise the whole genre by stuffing lets say...Gouryella, then a few tracks later...uhh...Mindcircus? Two totally different types of tracks with an ENTIRELY different feel to each one of them. While I understand that your trying to give them a sampler and diversity in terms of track selection, it'll be just that...just a taste.
For example...one of my close friends wants me to make a CD for her. Now, I could span the time line from 99 to now and make it another Mega Ibiza Club Hits 2002 Gatecrasher Cream Edition CD, or tailor it specific to what SHE wants to hear. Remember, trance is, after all a personal experience. Here is my track list:

Hmmm...lets see...Apparantly, she wanted vocals, a slow pace, melodic feel and a warm, rounded touch to it. Second Sun and Obsession were thrown in as a 'signature' of mine, but they go right in because of their feel...
Try and focus on a specific...hard, fast paced, or laidback, trippy and melodic. You might think that portraying 'trance' with one type of genre like I suggested might sound like I'm stereotyping or showing one side, but trust me..it'll be easier to have em experiencing trance rather than just hearing it.

Let me see if there's some that HAVEN'T been mentioned yet by !_PeTrUs_...haha. Sorry if any are repeats!!!

Agreed. But the thing is...do these people who made the thread know what their friends want to hear? Why not put together more than one CD with a different style on each. You definetly have enough suggestions to do that. That way, your friends have alot more choices and maybe they can pick up on what style they like best. Then they can go from there. Not everyone likes uplifting trance! And maybe your friends won't. Give them enough choices to let them decide for themselves
