Army Service :( :( :(
Was just wondering, how long is the army service at each country?
Over here it's 3 years... uh... Am so NOT looking forward to it... Such a waste of the real best years of your life

We have no required military service.
Although, if I was living where I was born, which is Tehran-Iran, I would have been done with military service already. It's a good thing we moved to the states when I was 1.
When does your military service start?
Emil
yup, here in the states we dont have military required services but you'd have to sign up with the selective service once you hit 18 so if they do needed more men for a war or whatever they might call you up for duty..
No military service required in Canada either
None in Canada (what army?) and I think 18 months to 2 years in Syria. If I get back to Syria now, they'll throw me in the army right away... i'm considered a deserter cause i didn't do my service. (one of the reason why I never went back to Syria)
i know in poland it was 2 years.. dont know if they still make the men go.. but i think they doo..
sounds like fun
glasd I live in the UK
Im so very happy i live in the uk

I'm currently 18, so i'm supposed to be doing the service, but i got an extension of time, due to the fact that i'm currently studying... It's a very complicated process, but i'll be delaying it until i finish my university... then i'll have to pay $15,000 so that i won't have to join the army

1 year here.
Damn, 3 years is a long time
Hmmm
What does the military service you bunch are doing consist of? I've always had many misconceptions and I always think it's similar to boot camp (lol@my limited views).
^^^^ I don't know either. All I know is that after studying for 7 years in a school managed by the army, I had enough

hmm, we dont have an army!
but right now im living in NY, which as you all know, is part of usa and in this country, military is not mandatory so either way i dont need to go there!
uh
I'm dual citizen
wonder what will happen if two countries decide having military service.
france used to have it but they quit that like 5 years ago

I'm currently 18, so i'm supposed to be doing the service, but i got an extension of time, due to the fact that i'm currently studying... And...i heard that if your in a religous school, you don't have to join the service!???? |

in austria we can chose between 8 months army or 12 months civil service!
In answers to 3 of the quesitons:
A) We start @ 18, depending on where you are going to serve, you might even be called to begin training on August of you end of 12th grade summer vacation

B) Service over here could vary between engineering & research, "Kravi" IE fighting which means securing and also participating in anti-terrorist actions, and also intelligence...
C) As much as I know, if you're an only child you need both parents' permission to join the army...
The thing that prevents me from deserting, isn't the whole loss-of-citizen-rights thing... It's the fact that all of my friends are gonna go, nearly all of Israeli citizens go, hell, even Israeli Arabs, Druzis go there! And suddenly the all important me will come and say "No thank you, I'm too lazy to risk my life too"?
The only Isreali citizens not servinga are the orhtodox Jews... They are excused off army since they study religion instead, apparently helping us in spirit in battle instead of physically. You will find many of us who resent that, I personally can't wait for the day religion will get seperated from state over here.
no compulsory military service in the UK!
and i don't think there's any compulsory military service in Sri Lanka either! (where my folks r from)
either way, im still considering joining the reserves during/after university....better start burning off that fat!

All the effort to get every paper approved and verified from the university and stamped with the uni seal for nothing... Fucking idiots they think they're in dictatorship-Syria and can ask and get whatever they want... morons ![]() |

god has no place in politics, just like fact has no place in organised religion
slightly modified, but so true
No one should be forced to give up years of their life to joina military. I mean, if war breaks out, then you may have been forced to give your life away. How right is that?
