It sounds awfully similar to his remix of William Orbit's track "Barber's Adagio For Strings" which is of course originally by Samuel Barber. So..

Yeah right as if he was going to use this classical piece twice for two different tracks..

Besides I don't find them that similar at all..

Nope. It was composed by John Ewbank, so it isn't an existing classical music part.

Cool

Tenshi was nicked from some classical piece !

Posted by escee on Nov-26-2002 11:36:

i dont know where it was taken from, but perhaps your thinking of the fake ligaya which was floating around. That was taken from a swedish childrens poem/rhyme if i remember correctly.

other than that dont know.

That's correct. John Ewbank also composes for a dutch artist called Marco Borsato. Download Marco Borsato - Voor Altijd from Kazaa and you'll notice a lot of similarities. That song is almost like a pop-version of Ligaya.

Indeed it is similar. Quite simple to translate then

Really???? Does anyone know the actual name of the classical piece???

Posted by fridgefan on Nov-27-2002 00:16:

As someone who likes follows classical music almost as closely as trance, I have to say, I don't believe Tenshi samples any specific classical piece. The melody has a bit of a Bach feel, but nothing specific. Love the song though

Like Wise!!!!
Which is why I was so curious about this so called classical tenshi piece... I would love to hear the original if it exists

AND Yes, the main Tenshi melody does have a typical baroque-style chord progression... But not really in the strictest sense.

Tenshi is a Japanese word for angel (and sometimes for emperor).

I have to agree, there's no part in Tenshi that exactly echoes a classical piece. But if you listen to Tenshi, it's really put together like a classical work. People think I'm nuts when I say that alot of trance is pieced similarly to classical music. But if you listen to it, it has a prominant melody and numerous other intertwining parts. If you can understand the music then you can pick it apart like a puzzle, whereas some people can only hear the song as a whole, not with individual parts. Maybe thats why I like trance so much?

Not sure if that makes sense to anyone. I'm rambling. heh

if you dun wanna read on classical music mumbo-jumbo..skip my post.

nope, tenshi actually doesn't sound very classical to me in the sense of chord structure....too simple a construction and it actually sounds kind of based on the dorian scale which would make it a more pre-classical style. ligaya on the other hand has a very nice chord progression with a lot of passing 2nd inversions and cadential 2nd inversions to lengthen the whole melody.

Hmmmm...as i just re-heard ligaya...both ligaya and tenshi seemed based on the dorian scale....i wonder if that is ferry's trick.

Yeah, that and that ONE synth lead!!!

But seriosly, the only thing I found, which I can't check out at the mo, cos I'm at uni was

quote:
Gouryella - Tenshi, uncredited, but steals melody from Light & Shadow (on CD single releases)

from a site about covers of Vangelis pieces at http://www.koert.com/data/cover.htm

I dunno if it's true, cos it's the only place I found that says anything like this. Who knows? I'll check when I get home.

Interesting stuff about Tenshi .. will look into it

Posted by CygnusX on Nov-27-2002 13:22:

I've downloaded Vangelis - Light And Shadow and the melody is the same as in Tenshi, so it's indeed a cover What a surprise!!!!

Anyone got an idea where the melodies in Gouryella and Walhalla come from?

Posted by kosmostar on Nov-27-2002 13:32:

Walhalla=Original

No way! I was wrong to doubt then. I always thought it was by FC/Tiesto. When I found the site, I thought it would have been wrong. Ah well, it will be interesting to listen to Light and Shadow when I get in!

I'm almost certain that Walhalla, Gouryella and Gorella are originals. I hope so, cos Walhalla kicks too much ass to be a cover!!!

Posted by Luke Terry on Nov-27-2002 14:07:

Cool

Look, listen to Tenshi closely, u can hear strings, they are nicked from a classical piece The melody fits in with the strings...

I can't find the name but I have found something else...

Tenshi was inspired by an old Vangelis tune
