instead of taking the advice of rather unqualified people why dont you hit up a review site?

http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardware/

or go with any GeForce2 card.

Thumbs up

Geforce 2 GTS, 64 mb, TV-out, defeniteley !
I don't have one myself, but your pc shouldn't have any problems with running games any more...
You could also wait for the Geforce 3 to come out, but i've heard it's gonna cost about fl 1000,- (=$300 (?))

I've got a HERCULES 3D PROTHET II GeForce II 32 MB. Fine card, and not to expansive...

Very good 3d stuff from HERCULES

Check out.

Or just the normal site:

yes the geforce2 GTS will do virtually anything you need it to. games, graphics, etc. or your can wait till the geforce3 like Boss said. but the thing is with the Geforce3 is that it'll take a while for software to curve towards the technology available on the GF3 (the vertex engine, etc. etc.)

if money is an issue, go for the Geforce2 MX. a toned down version of it's GTS brother. still a great card.

Hercules makes some serious quality shit. but they're beginning to run into financial problems with a past debt that they still have not paid off. their company nearly went bankrupt last year...i'm not certain how they stayed in business but the point is they have. but to avoid any problems in the NEAR future, i wouldn't buy a hercules card simply because if they do end up going out of business...then future software won't support their cards and new drivers will not be available.

peace

Geforce MX cards will run around $100, great cards for the money. The GTS cards are near $200 I think now. The Ultras are just over $300. And if you are a serious gamer, and want to spend serious money, the Geforce 3 cards have just come onto the market. My favorite brands are Hercules, Elsa, and Asus.

Asus is the brand i'd stick with. quality cards they put out.

Find some info on the geforce 3.. and also find yourself that winning lottery ticket!

I agree the geforce 2 64 mb card is the way to go. I have the voodoo 5000 and wish i got the geforce instead. The Geforce 3 is looking really cool, but the amount of money it costs isnt really worth it. It's not much better than the geforce 2. at least in tests.

for games, no, the tests aren't that far off. but it's not the benchmarks that make it such an amazing piece of hardware. it's the features and the technology on it.

it's every graphic artist and animators dream.

LOL lynx in his element!!

btw, got a crapy --ATI Rage 128-- which pukes out the single pics of the ATI-DEMO-Vid instead of an fluent animation!!! Horrible!!!

but i can still laugh bout that!! aint i weird??

Posted by Linx_da_cat on May-03-2001 01:30:

hahahah you think you're the one with a BAD video card?? ironically this graphic designer (ME) has the WORST video card in history!!!!!!

ya ready??
huh??

get this!!

it's a......4 MB ATI RAGE LT PRO...BOOOYAHHH! the mother of alllll shitty cards!!! OH YEAH!

Yeah i hear ya. But a lot of games have yet to utilize those features, but i guess in the next year or so they will. For graphic artists what you really need is a G4 Mac or a silicon Graphics pc with a gig of mem. Then just add one of those FireGL cards in there from Diamond MM. Now that would be a sweet setup. Your 3d designs would be rendering like lightning.

OMG! don't remind me hitpuree!! starfox has been taunting me with pics of the G4 titanium laptop that i told him i wanted like a few weeks back. omggg...i want it....i want it...it would make my life sooo much easier....and complete! hehehe.

oh and it's not the rendering time or anything that makes the GF3 so amazing...like the next vertex engine...omg...that is truly revolutionary. animators will be able to program up to 128 commands into a single vertice, which makes motion animation...or any animation infinitely more fluid and amazing than it already is...and with the layering technology and stuff on there...wow...landscapes never looked better. then ya got this amazing thing where the GF3 can render nearly anything with NO CPU access time...NONE! that's amazing!! *cough* okay...okay...i'm gonna stop now...there's lotsa new shit packed into the GF3...wow...

I've had an ATI Radeon 64 DDR with tv tuner, etc since about last June... I scored it at about 1/7th the retail cost since I have friends at ATI

..too bad I don't have time to play games

Maybe that will help animators simulate human hair. I hear its been extremely difficult for animators to make human hair truly lifelike. Theyve pretty much mastered animating water, but hair is another challenge all together. Maybe this new technology your talking about will take them one step closer. I haven't read too much about the GF3, but from what your telling me it's awesome. Ill have to go read more about it.
