Genuine Software?

I'm pretty sure most of you guys (no offence) are running on slightly illegal copies of software on your computers. Right?

Well.. a friend of mine... has a computer that isn't running on a hugely legal copy of XP. Unfortunatly a week ago it broke,.. and he took it to a computer shop to get repaired.
Mr Computer Repair shop started asking questions about the copy of XP and wants the product code, and until Mr Computer Repair Shop gets that code he refuses to give the computer back to my friend?

SO a couple of questions...
A)What is the fine for having an illegal copy of XP
B)What can I do about my friends little situation?
C)How bad is giving Mr Computer Repair Shop the not legal product code?

I know it's not related to music but it's a pressing matter, thanks!

btw.. My friend lives in the UK but n e advice it helpful

#1. Whats it in for?

#2. Your friend didn't put the illegal copy of XP on that computer.

#3. The product code was lost, _____ installed it, your friend ran into a someone at school/work, who offered to upgrade the PC. Your friend never got his last name.

#4. You don't have to answer the product code.

#5. Tell Mr Computer Repair shop to return the product under repair, or you'll see him in court.

mr computer repair shop cant hold his PC.

tell him you will either fone the roz to come and get it for you or you will bring round a mob and take more than just his computer back.

What the hell is the world coming to? Dorky Computer Repair Shop men think they're tough and can tak peoples' comps.

Just tell him you'll take him to court if he doesnt give it back

Can I buy you a drink?

Find out if he has a family, If he has kids follwo them to school. Take photos of his kids while they are at school. Go back to the shop, show him the photos and say: "If i dont get my computer back somthing bad is going to happen"

He will either give your computer back or go to the cops, if he goes to the cops just play dumb.....he wont be able to prove a thing.

he doesnt have the rightto do that. even if it is an illegal copy. complain to the manager.if that doesnt work...threaten to sue or threaten to call the cops..make a bg scene i am sure they dont want to ruin the reputation of the store.

he's trying to play scare tactics on your friend.... give them right back to him...threaten to sue...get violent...and threaten.....ha hah yuor mate will have his comp back in no time!

Try these excuses:

1) Lost the key

2) Built by a friend who lost it

3) Purchased it used from a random asshole

uhh yeah....just use some of the excuses listed above...i suggest trying the 'i lost the key' or 'someone offered to upgrade' or 'i bought this comp at some shithole' before you try the 'i'll call the cops' or 'i'll take you to court for this'!
good luck! if someone ever refused to give me my computer back...i would literly take his ass to court! NO ONE TOUCHES THE COMPUTER!

Anyways, just yell and scream and say you are gonna sue and stuff and they'll give it back.

Go in there and tell him to give you your fucking computer back its non of his business what your cd key is, if micro$oft wants tell him to have bill gates give you a call

Threaten to sue? No suit taking place here. Take the guy to court, let a judge decide, threaten his business reputation/job, report to the better business bureau. There's plenty of ways around here to get something solved without having a physical/dangerous dispute. You got rights, use em. Though I don't fully believe in our court system, this is a case he'll clearly win.

Ofcourse, I'm sure we haven't heard half the story. No computer repair department is going to ask you for your cd-key in the first place. Thats private information, and a license that you purchased for your own private use.

what part of H-town do you live? I'm from there but now im off in strange places doing weird things. Whats new i havent been there for any length of time in damn near 3 years i miss home

Well, right now i'm in the west side of town, out by hwy 6. You off in college or what? Not much is too new around here really. Same old Houston. I even find myself usually off in strange places doing weird things as well. Anyway, nice to see a local in this canadian jungle.

actually, getting violent on mr. computer shop's ass and starting threatening him (with anything else other than a lawsuit) would probably be a bad idea.

most likely, he is asking you for the code because he fucked up and can't reinstall windows or whatever. so that's why he can't give you the computer back, because it's still fucked up. and anyway, how the hell would he know if your friend's code is illegal?

Ya see why he wants the registration code first. Your friend might be making a big deal about nothing. But after that you might need to get you baseball bat ready.
