incredible track but ID is a total mystery
so i was at my local used vinyl store in downtown vancouver when
i came upon this incredible track that i just can't seem to id.
i unfortunately can't get a sample but i can describe it in detail.
the record i heard had a sleeve was mostly purple with a cartoon of an indian-looking
woman on it. there was only one word on the front written in an
oriental-style font: HABIBI. (i don't know if this was the artist or the track title). on the back, it said 'promotional use
only, not for sale' and it said it was released by virgin canada.
the actual record had 4 mixes of the track. the first track, id'ed
on the label only as 'habibi mix', is the one i'm after. this mix has a very heavy bassline and some ambient female vocals in another
language. there
were three other mixes including a dnb-ish one. i'm sorry i can only offer
such a sketchy description of this vinyl but has anyone else seen
it or know what it is?? if you do i'd appreciate it.
hrm..
heavy bassline..
System 7 - Habibi
its pretty old (like 90-92)?
vocalist is Olu Rowe if thats is of any interest
the version i have is on Ten Recordings, but SYstem 7 have a few albums out on Virgin Records so that could be it?
thats what i thought too. thing is i downloaded a little snippet
of that track off soulseek but it didn't sound right. but i'll try
again.
does the track you're talking about start with nothing but
singing and then the bassline comes in all of a sudden? cuz thats
what the track i'm talking about sounded like...
also it was probably a promo vinyl and believe it or not the damn
thing DIDNT LIST THE FUCKING DATE! so i have no idea how old it is
makes it that much harder
to track down i guess
well anyway thanx for your help breakdown i'll see if that is indeed
the track i'm looking for.
perhaps you can look into the remixes:
Another World Mix
7" Mix
Camel Mix
Did the cover look anything like:

no, it didn't look like that at all. it has a drawing of an
oriental-looking babe on it and it's mostly purpleish.
this might sound a bit weird but i was able to re-construct
the bassline from memory using fruityloops. it's very crude
but it is what the basic bassline sounds like. if i post it
would that help to track it down?
