Question

Hi,

I was wondering wher Egham Surrey England is and what super clubs are located near it. Im gonna ask work to let me work there for a bit. I want to party in England. No,,, Im dying to party in england. You guys dont know how good you have it. ALl the big djs every weekend. we (canada) only get a few big djs a month if even that.

Last week guy ornadel gave an explosive performance. His set was awesome.

I've never heard of it, but I just checked it on the map and it's next to STAINES where Ali G is from Do you get his show in Canada?

So I think the nearest city is London, but my geography isn't great. You might find London's scene a bit dissapointing as most people seem to agree the mad parties are in the North of England but it's supposed to have a good acid techno scene (Dave the Drummer, Chris Liberator, Rowland the Bastard etc are all from London). As some of the London TA's inform me though, they can be tricky to find as London has so many clubs, and most of them are garage/r'n'b etc.

Guy Ornadel is doing a 3hr set in Newcastle on Dec 13th. I don't think I can afford it though with no job and christmas coming up

I dont think we get the Ali G show here but i have a few clippings of shows (the interviews) and the movie that i just watched yesterday. How long does it take from london to Northern England by car. Ill pass on the Garage and rnb. enough of rnb here to last a lifetime

Well Newcastle is the furthest North city in England, and it takes about 4 hours drive by car to get here from London. Glasgow and Edinburgh are about 80 miles north and so another 1 - 2 hrs drive. Sheffield (Gatecrasher) is probably about 3 hours drive, maybe 2.5 hrs, and birmingham (Godskitchen) is probably 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs away from London. Those are just rough guesses though, I don't own a car so my estimations aren't from experience.

It's not the time that you should be worried about though. People assume British people are lazy because we don't drive long distances. When you see the price of petrol you'll understand why. You're talking 3 or 4 times what you'd pay in the US, I shit you not. (I don't know what prices are like in Canada). Because we are a small country, congestion is a massive problem so they hike up the petrol costs. 80% of what you pay goes to the govt (that's not an exaggeration, but the actual figure!) and then there are the fixed tax costs of owning a car. That's the price you pay for living on a small island That's not to say you must rule out owning a car, for some people it is still cheaper to own and run a car, but be prepared for expensive and congested journeys.

Coaches are much cheaper for getting about. London to Newcastle is �30 return, and it's a wee bit more to Edinburgh (shouldn't be any more than �45). Go to www.xe.com/ucc for currency conversions. I'm sure there are many benefits to living in this country instead of Canada, but there are bound to be many costs too.

The clubscene in the UK is very good, but the licencing hours are crap. Again, I don't know what your situation is in Canada, but in Europe bars and clubs everywhere open all day and all night, whenever they want basically. The UK has strict laws on pub and club hours (like much of America I hear) so only a few clubs go beyond this (although like most of Europe you need only be 18 to drink/go clubbing in the UK, in parts of Europe it's younger). London is an exception as it has clubs open and afterhours clubs until any hour. Within the next year, these laws are due to change and the UK will get 24 hr licensing (hopefully, it looks very likely as the Queen has already passed a bill on the matter). Basically, this would transform the UK scene into arguably the best in the world (at the moment Holland or Germany probably take this prize?).
