Are you able to hold a piece of Willow for a while

can you throw a red round thing ?

Do you look good in white ?

Then join the England Cricket side, you canna do worse than anyone else

Also please tell our guys that cricket is 5 days not 3 cos it's getting majorly embarassing, you don't realise how pissed off we are that we're capitulating, ah well come Melbourne Hopefully Freddie will be back, at least he plays with passion

Posted by Philby on Dec-01-2002 14:22:

lol
i dont like it any more than you do man, it means i dont have anything to watch on tv tomorrow...

hehe

i can hold a piece of willow for a while, i can throw a red round thing and i look good in white so maybe if i wasnt injured i would sign up! hmm wait. maybe ill sign up anyway, half your team is injured i would fit right in!!

ah well, one dayers now till boxing day, maybe you can concentrate your poor efforts over 3 or 4 days into a good effort for one day!!

Posted by Ian on Dec-01-2002 14:35:

Even Worse, we'll be all out within 10 overs

Thank god Sri Lanka are coming too, we might last 20 overs in some games, and I appologise for our inabilities to play, we're gonna send our soccer team out for Melbourne

Posted by Philby on Dec-01-2002 14:48:

hehe we are playing you in soccer in february! you should be able to beat us in that at least...harry kewel and mark viduka may not be the best of friends atm if the sun is anything to go by...

U guys could at least make the match a wee bit more competitive by making us bat again

Sadly, I think we were trying to do that

Times like this make me wish my grandad hadn't moved to england so I'd have been born in Aus and have a cricket team to be proud of

Ah well at least next summer my county team, Derbyshire have Michael Di Venuto and Nathan Astle as our overseas players, should be some decent batting to watch

Just a thought, but have you guys considered redirecting your funds to another area - such as youth development.

It's widely known that Australia's success can be attributed to our development system and how we nurture our future talent. I think you guys have a lot of good players over there who aren't getting the proper attention they deserve. Surely, the Gooches, the Snows, and your other legends (sorry that's all I could come up with ) could lend some sorta assistance.

Anywayz, that's my remotely-intellectual view for the week. I'm just pissed that I only get to see the Cricket Show three times instead of the proposed 5.

Posted by Ian on Dec-02-2002 00:05:

Yes, I'd love that to happen, but the money goes to 3 counties, Yorkshire (gough hoggard vaguhan silverwood & Lehmann was there) Surrey (Stewart Tudor Butcher Thorpe Batty etc) and Lancs who had Atherton & got Flintoff now.

Other problems are that cricket is not played in schools now, since i left mine the cricket pitch was sold for housing and also it's seen as a posh sport, so theres hardly ne youth comin through, IMO we need Under 21 tests like football but so the youth know what its like and can see if they can handle it all, most of the younger cricket fans are cos its in the family, like me, My dads been an Umpire for 25 years now and been as high as first-class games which is cool.

if you think we're bad now, in 15 years I think we'll be dead Good job I wanna move back to Aus to the other half of my family, cos I might be able to follow some games then

Posted by Tranceilvania on Dec-02-2002 02:49:

Look; Cricket is Boring and should be abolished alltogether from the face of the planet.... My guess is; Brits finally realized its a stupid thing to do and gave less attention to it, resulting poor performance in that so called sport!! My opinion is Aussies giving it too far attention unlike other nations and they keep winning. Simple as that...! Cricket??????? Nahhhhhhhhhh.

wtf????????
ive been playing since i was like 10

selling the pitch for housing???

farrrk

no wonder you guys are in trouble...

we have a cricket academy here, where up and comers get training and shit from old players and stuff, id say you need something like that!

stfu tranceilvania!

go to the first aussie one dayer at the G and you'll find it anything but boring!!

Posted by Ian on Dec-02-2002 15:27:

are we fucked ? Pretty much so

We've announed our one day squad, a few decent guys to watch out for

Ian Blackwell - Tall built like a brick shithouse left handed batsmen & off spinner, kinda like Andrew Symonds for you guys

Kabir Ali - Young player of the year, Fast bowler, regularly 90mph+ but may be a bit erratic if nerves show, hope not though

Robert Key - Decent prospect, you seen a bit of him in the last 2 tests, finding his feet and hopefully do ok for us

Paul Collingwood - Weird player, bowls a Damien Martyn Medium Pacer, usually narrow, worked wonders in NZ last March, Useful batsmen, very creative & strong on the leg side, been playing club cricket in Melbourne this winter to keep fit for this

Also Ben Hollioake was finding his feet before his unfortunate death in February in Perth such a waste of talent gone, and he'd just broke into the 1 day team.

Posted by Hybrid Junkie on Dec-03-2002 14:22:

ehehehehe we've been playing backyard and beach cricket for the last week at my friend's beach house with tennis balls and we're all average/crap it's been so much fun.

The most classic photo is of nick batting with one hand, beer in the other, and a ciggy in his mouth...

I wanna see the australian team make an effort like that, and play cricket the aussie way

Posted by Ian on Dec-03-2002 14:51:

we could have 7 arms and 6 legs, we'd still be shit, it's beyond embarassing now, so much so Me & Az are waiting for our call ups

hehe fcf id like to see that
i can just hear ritchie going through the line up now

coming in at number 4 is ferrycorsten fan, marvellous player, got the call up after england's shithouse performance so far. average of 47, highest score 2 hundred and chooooo, super effort that was indeed.

Posted by Ian on Dec-04-2002 14:35:

the starting XI for the first one day game

Michael Vaughan
Az
Ian (me)
Nasser Hussain (someone has to be captain)
Andrew Flintoff
Ian Blackwell
LukeT (Project T)
Steve Harmison
Az's Grampa
My Nana
My pet Dog

should get more runs than the usual team

Posted by G K Murray on Dec-16-2002 00:26:

Nick Knight Vs Australia!!

Bit harsh, suppose Blackwell looked promising, but where else are our runs gonna come from.

We've let ourselves down in the tests, now the one dayers As fans we don't expect to win Aussie people! We expect to see our team put up a good performance against the best team in cricket. Our only bats are KNIGHT, VAUGHAN and TRESCOSTHICK who hasn't had the best of tours, but is still statisticly one of our best. Our bowling I won't even go there, UTTER SHITE!!!! Theere is no way wee will beat you Aussies this tour, and we will struggle against Sri Lanka, even tho they have a shit record out of the Sub Continent.

Anyway, it's a bit shit what happened to Warnie, think he should be fit for the World Cup tho, he just can't seem to shrug off those injuries over the past couple of years. Miny you Staurt Macgill isn't a bad part time raplacement

Hhahahahhahahaha... all class

Boonie sunk some insane number of tinnies in 24 hours once...somethin glike 52 or 54... my god, he's a big boy

I was thinkin about this, the whole world (apart from Australia) should create a team with the best players from each country, train together for 6 months then come and take the aussies on... imagine if we won? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH, YESSSSSSSSS WE ARE INVINCIBLE!!

Posted by Philby on Dec-16-2002 08:38:

lol is there a harlem globetrotters cricket team?
maybe they could beat us

hehe
yeah i posted in the post whore thread what i thought of the game on sunday, although i cant comment on the aus innings since i wasnt there.
but yeah knight did well, blackwell too.
but we left before the end and i didnt check the final scores hehe

Posted by TimmmaH on Dec-16-2002 08:59:

woah :/

i cant believe that they killed your cricket pitch for housing, we pretty much have a astro turf wicket every few kilometeres in the suburbs, and some schools (stupid private schools ) even have turf wickets....

no wonder you guys suck ass,
most of us have probably played a season or two of cricket when we were kids, england is just stupid i spose, bad luck dude

Well as a matter of fact, they can hit sixes with the handle of the bat and they bring a whole new term to the "googly" When they field, everybodies in the slips, although they choose not to call it the slips, and instead the Sledging Caulden. They bat somethin reminicsant to Hybrid Junkies buddy. Bat in one hand, beer in the other and a ciggie in the mouth

Precisely, as each place gets bigger here (my town has gone from 40'000 ppl to 70'000 in the last 10 years) we lose things like that

We have a pitch on the park in summer but its usually messed up by beerboys & ppl riding motorbikes over it, so we maybe get one or two games max in a half decent pitch, main reason why i wanna move to Aus, cos it really pisses me off here the lack of respect for sports, its all about

lol
they bowl around the back and through the legs
and when someone takes a catch, they juggle it around to each other and roll it down their arms etc hehe

batting, they can pull off arsey shots all day a la ryan campbell in aus a vs sri lanka
that was fucking brilliant
how would you feel getting belted with shots like that...

ian: do u at least have nets or something near ovals where you could have a bowl at least?
i thought there would be stacks of cricket grounds and lots of local clubs in the counties or whatever.

He's right, it's like that all over Engalnd! people have no respect for sport apart from Football (or Soccer as u know it). If you started playing cricket down your local park or oval, you would probaly get laughed and get beatan up in the process. It just seems like a nothing sport hear to the average person, unless a member of your family has played it, therefore you will have played it from a young age, or rich dads who want there sons to play a VERY respectable sport in the wealthy world just to say to their stuck up friends that there son plays for the local cricket team

The attitude is all wrong in this country and we will get worse before we get better. For an example of this i remember one you Aussies started a thread regarding the start of the Ashes series in the UK FORUM, remember the response??? SO FUCK!, I HATE CRICKET, WE DON'T CARE ABOUT CRICKET, CRICKET IS FOR ASSHOLES AND SO ON, need i say more!!! That's no disrespect to any of the UKTA's as it's fair enough of they don't like cricket, i'm just trying to emphasise a point to Aussies

nasser hussain press conference:

"well i think you know, it'd be good to have a couple of beers you know, and celebrate, cause we won a game. and then we'll have to put it behind us."

LOL!!!!!!!!!
