In your Track Comments on each Track in the Download Page, you speak about Uplifting Trance and some other sub-divisions of Trance. Please can you explain me what are those sub-styles and what are their caracteristics?
Thank you very much.

Here ya go...

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/content.php?id=10479

Go to the trance section...

Posted by South Trancer on May-03-2001 18:05:

what a complete page!
nearly EVERY single sub-division of House/Trance/Jungle/Breakbeat/Techno/Hardcore

all of them with sound samples and lines to describe its progression

Posted by tran-o-holik on May-03-2001 18:32:

wow thats a cool website

but half of the stuff that they explain what trance is, is not true like paul van dyk is more of a progressive trance trance not epic trance.

and binary finary is not that

everything else seems to be somewhat right though.

but thats my 2-cents

PEACE!!!!

the samples for each, are pretty much right (For An Engel is NOT progressive in a million years tran-o-holik, you can call it epic, but Uplifting is the word of choice) but the evolution is pretty much wrong for trance and techno
The format is bad too, all the genres are basically intertwined, spllitting really gives you no sense of evolution

but it's good to get to know what each genre approx. sounds like

Epic trance and uplifting trance are the same thing (aren't they?)

Posted by Ckerr812 on May-03-2001 20:07:

no comment..I think that page is full of shit....just some guys opinion on stuff.....Just goes to show that if you make a "cool" flash site anyone will listen........*please note the disclaimer on it, not to take it seriously* Mainly for people new to Electronic music.

Nope, they are different big time.....Uplifting would be tiesto kinda stuff, not that heavy....Epic would be more Dumonde and System F stuff, heavy synths.....

I love this page! It's so specific! I listened to the Rotterdam music at the Hardcore part, and my stomach just started to hurt, cuz I was longing for the good ol' days! ...but I'm doing better now

That little flash program was made by the creator of this site, which has some other funny rave-related things on it too: http://www.ishkur.com/

Dumonde is hard trance.

Epic Trance is uplifting. ex: Ferry Corsten, Tiesto

Hard trance has heavy percussion, bassline or kick & usually faster. Ex: Cosmic Gate, Warp Brothers, Scot Project.

Progressive trance has funky, subtle progression doesn't have strong driving melodies or heavy synths. ex: James Holden- Horizons. Joshua Ryan- Pistol Whip. Max Graham. Sasha- Expander

Binary Finary-1998 is uplifting its epic or anthem trance.

hmm....I would think that cosmic gate would be more hard trance....IE:because of the bassline.....More layered heavy percussion and bass.....

Epic: has it's name because of the very melodic synth parts.....IE: something you would hear in the movie gladiator or something along those lines....big drowning synths...like a pipe organ....were one note is held for 16 even 32 bars.....like System F- solsitice or Dumonde- Never look back.....Alot heavier then uplifting...more dark, and layered......

Yes, but if u listen to some of Dumonde's other productions/remixes then u'll see why Twilogoddess put em' under hard trance.

umm...I never disagreed with Twilochick....I was just saying the difference between Uplifting and epic....it's a fine line really.....

that's hilarious .. i remember perhaps a month ago .. some one used sasha - expander as an example of dream trance... i'm not saying your wrong ... (as i have no opionion on the subject.. ) i just find it entertaining how these discussions play.. that two people can use the same song as a typical example of a form of music.. just shows how much opionion differs on this forum (and especially on such unclear subjects as this.. )

cheers
Mike

Satan (eek!)

I think its hilarious someone thinks Expander is Dream Trance.
