Question Air FX and other effects for spinning

Hey all, I was just wondring do any of you guys use an effects machine for your spinning? And if so, then what? Anyone use the Alesis AirFX? Any thoughts on it? I'm just trying to figure out a way to spice some of my music up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and please don't tell me to search the forum, cause right now at least the search function has been turned off. Thanks again.

Steve

i've heard some pretty insane fx from the airfx, but I've never used one.

There's also the KAOSS pad if you want alittle bit of a more expansive (and expensive ) unit.

Question

Anyone here know anything about the Korg Kaoss pad then?

I thinkx its too expensive ( 350$/400$ CAN )

i haven't used any external effects
just the ones that come on the djm-600 and the vcf filters on the xone:464

but from what i'v heard, and what i know can be done, and how you use it, effects can make a great set even better
however, it's a 2 sided coin... overuse and just general misplacement of effects can totally ruin your set

i say get your beatmaching solid first, then worry about the extras and stuff

no use for effects if you can't beatmatch worth shit

I have a Zoom RFX2000 effects processor, its the shit

But I have a Pioneer DJM-600 mixer that has some quality effects anyway

Let me give you the low down on both. I bought an alesis air fx over the summer before i upgraded my mixer.

alesis airfx is pretty cool, it has a lot of good features but the thing i dont like about it is that you have to know exactly how high and which direction you hand has to be. It plays on a 3 axis system, x (left/right), y (foreward, backward) and z (vertical up/down).
it you like to make the effects sound clean it is going to take an ass load of practice to get where you want it to sound clean and not to over effectie.

My latest mixer is a Numark EX 260 that has the Korg Kaoss pad integrated into it. I love this because it is hands on, you move your finger along the pad and that is the amount of the effect that can be given on it. The solo unit not sold on the mixers is the same way. Kaoss 1 technology has 60 effects (50 realtime effects, 10 for the built in 5 second sampler) I havent touched the kaoss 2 technology yet but i hard it has even more effects that are more suited to the exact BPM of the song.
