all nighters

for any of you university folk... this is the "i have to study all night" support thread!

i have a zillion hours left to do and its already 11:39 pm, so i decided to take a yellow jacket (aka: legal CRACK), washed down with an energy drink, and ill surely be up for many, many hours now.

what do you do to stay awake all night when you have to?

Posted by DjJade on Dec-06-2002 07:43:

i downed 3 redbulls the night i studied for an orgo test... stopped becuase it was getting expencive. they didnt really work but i used willpower to stay up till 5am and wake up at 7am to study more for the 10 oclock class. i think i over studied becuase i woudl have done better if i had gotten more sleep for sure... i dotn think im really an allnighter kind of person. usualy works better if i sleep early and wake up at like 5-6am. some of my friends have taken caffene pills though.

Nowadays I can barely stay up all night and study, w/ the exception to video games. Time flies w/ those things

Posted by sothis on Dec-06-2002 08:12:

well so far the ephedrine/caffeine in my bloodstream has helped me to dance around my kitchen to fast jungle music... but not study!!! grahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

must study must study

Do what Einstein did when he had to work all night: 20 minute naps every 4 hours. Dont nap in bed, your more likely to fall asleep and stay asleep. Get on the couch or floor or something, set your alarm, and tell yourself you can only sleep for 20 minutes. You will usually fall asleep fast, and feel better after you wake up

This is a trick I learned when I used to work selling hot dogs from a cart in downtown Vancouver. I remember those summer nights, when I'd stay up 24 hours playing a computer game or whatever, only to have work the next day...needed to do something to keep awake, and then I found out about this method, and voila!

anyways, if you start feeling sleepy, do the following :

- Take something COLD, like I mean COLD. Colder the better (a pop can that's been sitting inside a cooler full of ice is an excellent example. Ice Cubes wrapped in Siran Wrap are another good one).

- Place directly on your forehead. Roll it around.

TA-DA!

I don't know what it is, but doing this jolts you back awake, or rather, it stops you from feeling you have "heavy eyelids", which will eventually be your downfall. I guess it has something to do with the coldness of the object making the muscles above your eyes contract (colder the better ) but I'm not to sure. Whatever, it works, and it's worked for me for years. I'm so used to very little sleep, I haven't gotten an 8 hour nap in months.

Afterwards, to help keep awake, make sure you do something ACTIVE. Sitting and reading a book, listening to relaxing trance, or surfing the net (depending what you're doing) will cause you to be sleepy again.

If you don't believe me that this works, go and try it now (if you're mildly sleepy that is) and see the results for yourself.

Nocturnal people 4 life!

few months ago I've read an article about how scientists have already developed a pill that lets you stay awake non stop for couple of days w/ no side affects. That the military has quite an interest in b/c it can make supersoldiers. Good news to ravers

i overslept yesterday morning and because of that wasn't able to really study as much as i needed to for c programming, which final i had yesterday. and it caused to fail the test.

so i'm staying up all night tonight so i don't miss class tomorrow! last day of classes!!!

thanks for the support! i feel you all!!!!

Using caffeine etc. to stay awake and study is silly. I felt like shit and couldn't remember anything. Instead, try willpower and nipple clips.

Posted by sothis on Dec-06-2002 12:01:

well this has been a complete failure

11:30 pm: need to study, take 1 yellow jacket (pill that contains ephedra, caffeine, ginseng, everything), + energy drink

1:30 am: after not studying at ALL because im too cracked out, decide to try to sleep

3:30 am: get up, because i cant sleep

4:00 am: right now. guess im REALLY not sleeping tonight! ha this sucks

Posted by sothis on Dec-06-2002 12:12:

hahahahaha so i took this picture for the chat room to show how incredibly fucking cracked out i feel right now.. the picture explains how i feel PERFECTLY

I suggest you can stay up all night but stay away from Tranceaddict forums. Seems thats the problem. This forum makes you sleepy. Or go to the funny section find that site with that scary pop up. That might keep you up

when i was in college, it was ephedrine and coffee to wake up, and pot and beer to go to sleep.

I don't think you can get ephedrine down in the US any more though, only the herbal form, ephedra, which i found not nearly as effective.

i never pulled all nighters in college. it isn't worth it. cause even if i would ahve managed to stay up all night i would then be toot ired to take the exam and i would only put a half assed amount of offort into it. if you don't have time to finish studying then just don't bother. better to be alert when you take the exam.

ive never pulled anacademics related all nighter here in the Uni. seems stupid...i dont do alot of my reading, dont stress and get enough sleep and i do just as well as many people who study too much.

in reality i *could* study more, but you wont see me missing sleep for anything related to academics...im a friggin zombie if i dont sleep and zombies cant take tests|

Posted by OrZonE on Dec-06-2002 20:06:

HA!!!Amateurs!!!

Today was my second ALL nighter in 3 days! The hardest thing is staying up till 3 or 4, after that its a breeze. The most important thing though is NOT to get comfortable. Open a window, drink and eat a shitload. Works for me . No more all-nighters (for school) in 1 month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by jinxed84 on Dec-06-2002 20:20:

i the most recent all nighter was i think two weeks ago when i had to write a paper. i started the paper at about 2am, finished at about 4am and i was like f*ck it, its not worth going to bed for like 90 mins. (i wake up at 5:30 normally. because i procrastinate im always up late on sundays or the day before a paper is due. sucks but oh well

Posted by brunette on Dec-06-2002 20:24:

The 20-min sleep idea works. I used to do that when I was working as a bartender overnight shifts in a 24-hour cafe. I was so wiped though 'cause I had classes in the morning and would get 2 hours of sleep a night. And couldn't go back to normal sleeping hours for almost 8 months after I quit that job. And even now I can't get a good night sleep. It's fucked up. Just study in the morning.
