huh?? u r booting these 3 on one computer??

makes this any sense??

Posted by Linx_da_cat on May-06-2001 00:08:

yeah..tri booting isn't really efficient. win98se is essentially win ME. only ME is flashier. that's it.

Posted by breakdown on May-06-2001 01:41:

winme looks like win98se..
but theres way more lil options and utilities around..
i haven't discovered them maself..
but stuff that i have used... in particular, system restore, is rather clever....
and it loads within 9 seconds from turnin comp on

true, true. ME does load up a lot faster and has more knick knacks around. heh. but still, there isn't anything special about it. i personally find system restore rather annoying because winME constantly makes backup copies of you .dlls and other essential files. not only does it suck up MORE hard drive space, (200-500MB on average) but it also slows down your cpu, sucking up resources. *shrugs* there is no need for it in my opinion.

id apreciate the system recovery and the fast boot up coz win98se which i have likes breakin down and rebooting soo sloooowwww...

and i wouldnt mind if it sucks up a bit more of my hd coz its big enough!!

fact is i got WinME already at home but im to lazy to set it up!!

is it true that WinME send many infos to microsoft bout the users habbits??

Posted by C-naptik on May-06-2001 02:33:

do u like WinXP??

it just came out lately in austria!!

XP very similar to ME??

Posted by Linx_da_cat on May-06-2001 03:04:

XP i believe runs much like win2k. it has a much more intensive interface (a good thing). the thing is, it needs a lot of resources. but it looks like a great OS from what i've seen in the beta.

Posted by Pointy on May-06-2001 03:12:

i have WinDC

Posted by C-naptik on May-06-2001 03:14:

no..Win XP doesn't look like Win ME at all

it doesn't load the same way..the interface is so different
It comes with IE 6 and Outlook Express 6

About the resources..mmh, well, i have a c400 with 256 mb of ram, it just runs like Win ME on my comp..not slowed down i think..

The best thing is that you don't even need to install drivers ! Well, my configuration is from '99, so all the drivers are included, i didn't have to install the drivers manually of my grphic card (ati rage fury), my soundcard (sb live) and many others!

20 secs to set up my adsl connection, and it takes 5 mins with the cd of my adsl provider on Win ME !

So Win XP definitely rocks...many other things i can't think of right now
Ask me more if you want to !

the system restore can put the computer back to any date you want... so if u accidently screwed around with ur registry or something and dunno how to repair it.. thats good..

the info to microsoft about user habits i wouldn't know.. but i wouldn't be surprised... its a bit of a marketing technique..

i'm not about the legality of it tho
