Arrow Do you get much crap for listening to trance or whatever...?

hi,

we had a music discussion the other day at school in our english class and we were talking about diffrent styles and shit,..so this guy starts to talk shit about electronic music and trance, so i quickly snapp his fingers and the fight is on (with words), then he give me some crap for my ambiet, then i get really pissed off.

he goes like: "You and your reaver friends can stick your monoton music up your ass"

im like: "wtf dude, there is a sense of emotion in this shit, they do it by heart, not by how much mony they are going to get from the tracks"

and then it gets really messed up, the teacher agree with this dickhead.

so i wonder if you also get alot of crap from people around you (school, work etc.etc.)?

not yet!

but yea...'dick heads' are dick heads.....

Posted by goodnet on Dec-08-2002 22:23:

My universal answer of "You don't know anything about my music, so please shut up.", commonly works - since they realize they have no REAL grounds for dissing your trance/electronic. 99% of the time people know shit about electronic music anyway, except what they hear on the news.

People are VULGAR, they'll always say something like that. Why? cause the music industry's marketing campaigns/2020-tabloids have taught em otherwise.

'nuff said.

I would have jump his this guy and stick his fuckin head in his big stinky asshole !

Posted by Trickle on Dec-08-2002 22:38:

I haven't had any problems. But not many people in my area know what this trance is. So that's probably why. But I'm sure there are a few dickheads out there.

d00d, that would piss me off... i hate ignorant people. My friends make fun of it a lot, but it doesn't bother me, but if one of my teachers agrees that its monotone or what ever, i'd shit in their coffee.

man I get all kinds of shit for it. Why? Because my fucking town "Dallas, Texas" is all about the house heads. I got booked in freaking Europe before I played in my own town. Truely pathetic, but I never go out around here because the last crew that I know had some badass trance dj's....got kicked out of the club. Even though they had that room packed every night.

Honestly, alot of people are uneducated about it. When I played here at a party once, I had all the house heads, and D&B heads jumping around dancing having a ball. This girl came up to me and she asks, "What is this kind of music you're playing?" So of course I told her trance. And she responds, "Why does everyone hate this music, it fucking rocks, sounds better than that slow shit they're playing in the other room." Man that made my night

i get it all the time for listening to techno

but usually it's from people i don't care about, and therefor, i also don't care about their opinion about "my music"

and the people who come with these statements, are normally people who haven't tried listning to the real thing
it's hard to take a person seriously when he or she doesn't even got any experience with the stuff they are talking about, at least i feel it that way

Posted by netw3rkd on Dec-08-2002 23:20:

I don't bother aruging when somebody shits on electronic music because it wont change a thing.

Posted by DjJade on Dec-09-2002 00:19:

they always give me alot of trouble...especially becuase i live in a quite hall typically with a few football players blair out this really crappy rap... and then there are these lame shutins who get mat at you for talking past 1am. its pretty rediculous. plus... growing up in a very conservative small city in the south... people arent really open to antyhing that they cant hear on the radio. whats funny though is that whenevr anyone actually allows themselves to sit down and listen to the music and listen to me expalin why i like it and how to listen to it, they are hooked.

2. "subgenres? what genres, its all the same"
3. "its monotone"/repetetive
4. go take some ECSTASY pills
5. what exactly does a dj do?
6. its FAKE! its not music, its all done with a keyboard

Posted by Nadi on Dec-09-2002 00:37:

From time to time people tell me they dont like it, or say it sucks or whatever. But it doesnt bother me, I find it much more disturbing how much it bothers some people here that other people dont like trance, then it does that some people disagree with my taste in music or are ignorant and dont have an open mind.

Posted by Coup on Dec-09-2002 00:38:

all the time! in the end u just give up! all u hear back is "its all the same, bang bang bang". now i just tend to let them have their opinion, i rarely argue back unless its a big debate or i can be arsed.

Posted by Ste on Dec-09-2002 00:58:

most peopel in hte world knwo fuck all about the music and 99.99999% of the time have a comical taste themselves, so its easy to retort

Posted by Lira on Dec-09-2002 01:17:

I listen to electronic music since I was 8/9 years old, so I had all sort of nicknames like "Technoboy", "tunts-tum boy" (tunts-tum was supposed to be the beat), "Electrofreak"... and people ask me things like "Why do you listen to it? Because it's new?". Bloody hell, electronic music is about 40 years old... it's as new as bossa nova Bloody radios

edit: However, it's been changed lately. In fact, this saturday I'll throw a mini "rave party" for them :

7. I could produce techno too, but my game boy is broken
8. It's so cold... it doesn't have emotions whatsoever
9. Can you hear it? The phone is ringing, aren't you gonna dance? (hehe, I admit it, this one was quite funny )
10. How do you enjoy the music when you're not stoned? ( I almost bursted out in tears when I heard it, because the guy was serious. He had never gone sober to a rave )

Posted by mospeedracer on Dec-09-2002 01:58:

i get the "you must be gay" thing all the time. most people think you are supposed to be trashed to like it. and most of them only like the shit prodigy puts out and that pisses me off

yeah i heard that comment from some idiot who apparently loved hip hop, saying that electronic music is just a loop being repeated over an over and over and that it's so easy to make. i was like yeah hip hop is much complex (insert sarcastic tone here) :P

I get sh*t ALL THE TIME! There's people here that listen to House and such here, but they're still few and far between. At school people are like "trance?? what's trance??" with a snobby attitude. It's all about mainstream here, basically. I get that weird look like people think I'm on drugs or soemthing, which IS amusing, but most of the time I won't even bother trying to explain it to them. I've tried introducing people to trance, and some do like it. But most will only listen to what you hear on the radio. The music IS becoming more accepted, and maybe some day people won't treat is as a joke. But then again, why doesn't matter? We'll all still listen to it whether everyone else likes it or not! For me, i think it's fun freaking people out. Just say "Oh yes! I'm on ecstacy, and ketamine, and LSD, and acid..." and they should drop the subject

Only off my dad the fat piece of shit! He comes in my room when i'm blasting out the tunes and goes mental at me and starts calling the tunes shit. One day im gonna knock his fat head off!!

Posted by DJ_Ballistic on Dec-09-2002 03:12:

he, my brother said "techno" is too repetetive and i should listen to something that wasn't made in 5 minutes, so i removed the vocacls from a few of his eminem traxx.....it was fun to see him stutter and stumble trying to find a retort

nb: for those who didnt get it once i removed the vocals from the track, it was just the same sample looped over and over again, hence the

This one girl that i was talking to a couple of days ago called it "humping music"

Like thats a bad thing.

Posted by USMC_Greg on Dec-09-2002 04:19:

IMO, Trance is better to listen to than most of the chart-topping pop music out there. In trance do you hear about people raping women, beating wives, doing drive-by's, dealing drugs, or killing people--all done in vulgar language?

All this cheesy pop crap that Eminem and Snoop Dogg does is for little sub-urban middle-class white kids who think their shit is funny. In my old age I have become enlightened, and I listen to trance.

Yeah, same here. All mainstream BS. Can't stand that crap. If it wasn't for the radio it might not be all that bad. But once a song is a single it gets over played within 3-4 days. I'll just stick to my Lisa Lashes and Tiesto. And if people do know what trance is they automatically think I'm a drugy. Whatever they want to think I guess. I guess since they listen to mainstream I'll just assume they're all yuppie wieners.
