I wanna go to Guvernment what do I need to know?

I will probably be heading up to Toronto in february to meet some friends, and I've always wanted to check out The Guvernment.

What do I need to know about the club?

Dress code?
How are the lines to get in?
Drink prices?

Thats all for now. Thanks for your help.

Posted by GT_TraNcE on Dec-09-2002 16:38:

you should also check out viva night club when your down in toronto
www.vivanightclub.com

well in terms of drinks...it's fucking expensive was it 12 bucks or 6 bucks for a shot of goldschlager? i dunno but something like that.

and if you are going to hit a big event in guvernment, then get ready to get squished, it can get crowded.

dress code? well it varies, but it helps calling them up and making sure.

but don't let the negative comments discourage you, the music is great, decent lighting, amazing sound system.

have fun.

Bring a Gun!

Posted by Durafei on Dec-09-2002 17:16:

Why are you people so negative?

* Music - if it's regular night progressive house with a bit of trance.
* Drinks - pretty expensive, but cheap for american standards. I paid 13CAD for a Rev and a Budweiser last saturday. Don't think it's TOO
much.
* Cover - cheap. 10CAD before 12, 15 after.
* Sound - Awesome
* Lighting - Awesome
* Women - very good looking
* Line-ups. Depends what time you get in. Usually I come in around 11:30, and don't stand in line more than 20 minutes.

The only problem is that it's very very packed and hot inside.

Posted by morsy on Dec-09-2002 17:28:

it is a shame to hear that the club is always overcrowded for a nice club like that the promoters/owners should do something about that but i guess it is all about the money these days...

Posted by Tudo Beleza on Dec-09-2002 17:47:

yeah the crowdness is the killer for me, like it is a great club, just it is so packed usually. But you are right, it is all about the money.

Posted by Durafei on Dec-09-2002 17:50:

LOL
I don't understand. What else should it be about? Guvernment a business, and a good one. Why should Guv change anything if there is a demand for their business.. Besides, if it wasn't about money, you wouldn't see the likes of Tiesto, Armin, Ferry or others at Guvernment.

exactly the reason why i don't hit the guv for events happening in the main room...

Actually the Guverenment pays Durafei good money to speak nice stuff about them .

here is what your really going to expect at the Guv:

* Music - Tony Monaco jams the place all night long!
* Drinks - pretty expensive, your looking at two arms and a leg for drinks.
* Cover - yep, definitely take cover when some of those guns go off.
* Sound - very loud, since a lot of guns go off.
* Lighting - hey, those guns going off produce a lot light. so its all good.
* Women - What Women?
* Line-ups. Be there at like 6 in the morning, that way you'll ensure a spot. Anytime past 9pm, stand next to a person, unless you don't mind drive by shootings.

Ps. Bring two guns just in case.

Ha Ha? No thats when it was called RPM.

The Guv is one of the best clubs around. Definetly the best in Toronto. That is, as a venue.

The crowd can be a bit "drugged" out/gino/cracked out asian... and yes for special events they pack the place and it gets way too hot.

But good times can be had there the music is usually pretty good.

Dress Code - Anything you want. If ya wanna dress up there are lots of ppl dressed to the nines. Plus you can go to The Drink as well which is VIP 21 and over.

The Line up isn't too bad if its a regular night and depending on the time. 11-11:30 is a good time to aim for.

Drinks are a bit pricey. 5 bucks for a beer. 6.50 for a mixed drink. 7.50 for a rev.

Lots of hot friendy women but also lots of hot unfriendly women.

And 75% of the people there don't even know what day it is. Excessive drug use is more rampant at Guv than any other club in Toronto, IMO.

That, and the people can be quite rude. I've only found there to be any negligible "vibe" there one night (Ferry) - every other time I have gotten walked on, spilled on, bitched at, shoved, ignored by bartenders, etc. Why? See my previous point about rampant drug use!

Sorry to be negative, but those are the negative aspects of the Guv - everything else that's positive have already been said - and besides, the guy who asked originally already knows the good things about Guv, since he's planning on going there!

hummm yah i do not know, they need to balance it out, some how. hehehe, though i can understand why the run it the way they do, it is all about the $$$

I just watch those club parties in Europe and they look like they are having a blast, at the guv people do not look like that for some reason.

But yah the Guv is a nice club i think, the design is very good, similar to the clubs in Brazil, though the music is better here then there.

hhehe if this does not make sense, i have a econ exam tommrow, and i am kinda stressed out.

so wish me luck hehe

PS, yah it does have a drug problem, i had a headache when i went after all the marijuana smoke.

Posted by mot10n on Dec-10-2002 04:23:

g'luck, i have a java exam tomorrow, which is gonna be my hardest one... hoping to pass, nothing else

Posted by Skipper on Dec-10-2002 04:24:

^^^

You're completely right in the fact that Guv is a business - they learned from Labor of Love that they cannot be completely unforgiving when it comes to making money though.

The problem with Guv - but yet the reason why it keeps doing so well - is that it caters to the cracked-out crowd who go there because it's Guv, it's something to do, somewhere to get high on a Saturday night. That crowd will ALWAYS exist....so while the music comes and goes, the patrons get older and wise up (some!), the audience that Guv targets will always be around, because as the older generation grows out of its habits, a new one will develop.

make sure you wear a really tight shirt and pants, oh and make sure work out before you go lol j/j

Posted by Durafei on Dec-10-2002 15:03:

Btw, you have to understand that clubs in Europe are JUST as packed. I've been to Amnesia in Ibiza this summer. The club was just as packed, and they charged 50 euros to get in. As far as I know Gatecrasher is the same story... So.. have to be grateful for having club such as Guvernment, which brings amazing talent and cover is next to nothing !

1) Do about 50 push ups and 50 sit ups
2) Get out canola cooking oil and rub yourself down
3) Go to the club
4) Take your shirt off
5) Walk around like you are mad ass hell
6) Rub up on everyone cause they want to feel how tough you are
7) Do the Gino/Muscle head dance. (Wiggle your hips from side to side, and make a motion as if you are punching some one in the gut with both hands)**Repeat as needed**

You should have no problem fitting in.

OR

You can take a pill and go sit in front of the speaker with the 40 year old Asians and swing your head with great force from side to side while closing your eyes and bumping into everyone with no disregard for others.

Sorry I am not a fan of Guverment, consider it a warning.....

That's cool because it's the only club next to Viva or System Soundbar that drops the music we like to hear. I'm not a huge fan of the stuff you just mentioned either but I go regardless. I just hang out with TONS of friends and enjoy the tunes, that's why I go back.

Well, I'll be up there the weekend of feb 28th, and Mar 1 is my birfday. Is friday or saturday night the better night to go? Is there somewhere else in the area you'd rather recommend?

Posted by torontotrance on Jan-15-2003 16:26:

Frankly I don't care what club big names play....I hear a big name is coming to town....I'll go see him or her. The club means nothing to me and when John Digweed came to play here (koolhaus in nov)....1500 tickets....lots of dancing space...funtime.

Posted by beatjunkie on Jan-15-2003 16:28:

Friday night- System Sound BAr- Progressive House
Do they still spin Trance at Turbo on the first Friday of the month?

Saturday - Guverment (Blah) or Viva - Trance
